Audio Newbie Needs Help?
Audio Newbie Needs Help?
Hey all,
I don't know much about setting up audio for my car. I was thinking of changing my stock speakers to JL VR650CX in back and JL XR650CS in front. The salesman says I need to buy an amp also.
Q) What do you think about these speakers?
Q) Do I need to buy an amp for normal to a little loud type listening (I'm in my 40's but llke to jam on rock sometimes). Or will my stock head unit suffice? Or maybe a new head unit would work better than buying an amp?
Q) What is the difference between a head unit that is XM ready and one that is not?
Any suggestions and comments would be appreciated.

You are full of questions
JL Speakers are pretty nice. Do not buy by recomendation since speaker set is something that can only suit your ears. Listen to JL, Focal, A/D/S, Diamond or CDT. Choose the one you like and go with it. JL's are ok though.
Normally an amp will make a drastic difference in how your speakers sound. I would say tat amp is a must. You can change head unit afterwards.
XM ready headunit will give you extra connection to XM radio equipment. Then you will have to buy an XM reciever ($200?) and XM antenna (another $200 don't remember but in that area). Your headunit will not be able to recieve XM withought that equipment.
Hate midterms...have to stay up untill 5 am...grrr.
