Having trouble with HU in 1998 maxima, trying to take it out? please help
I am trying to remove all the pieces in my 1998 HU so i can put a aftermarket cd player. Problem is i can't get it to come out. I try to follow the instructions from maximadriver.com but when i try to take out the AC vents, they don't seem to wanna budge. When it says take out the ac vents, are those individual or with the ac unit, ect.. because it looks like it is all attached as one. I just don't want to break anything. PLEASE HELP. ASAP

brian, you have to be careful when takin it out. You need a big flat head screw driver or preferably a panel tool. slowly pry the top part out, where the vents and clock and hazard ligh buttons are. That piece needs to come out first. just keep at it ,but be gentle, like wiggle it around, it will pop out eventually. then you have to disconnect the buttons, then you will see i think two screws for the actually piece that holds the radio, don't forget there are screws at the bottom by the ash try, i take off the plastic around the shifter first, to get to those screws, take your time, use common sense and be gentle or you will scratch the hell out of your car.
Do not do what the above post says. Here's what you do (I've done it over 20 times). Remove the 3 bottom screws and remove the ashtray. Once that is done, pull on the bottom of the entire assembly until there is an audible click and there will be a small gap between ac vents and the actual ac control. There are two clips on the ac vents assembly that hold it connected to the ac controls. That click is when the clips pop out. Once it clicks, you can either pull out the center ac vents (pull straight forward only) or use a really long scredriver, flashlight and a magnetic catcher to take out two screws holding the ac/radio assembly. Once two two screws are out, the entire radio and ac control assembly just pulls out and you can disconnect all the harnesses.
