Infinity Reference vs Polk EX Series...

I am looking for new speakers for my 98...I was looking at the Infinity Reference components and coaxs, or the Polk EX series comps and coaxs...Both are the same price, so which ones are better...I am looking for a speaker with good highs and mids, because I have 2 12's in my trunk...Any opinions...

along with the other option ,I am playing with the option of getting JL components for the front, and Kenwood or Pioneer 6 1/2's for the rear...keep in mind that all this will be hooked up to my Pioneer 50x4 headunit...If you could give me opinions with both options !!

For $250 you could most likely get Kappas or EXs comps and coaxes. I haven't heard the EXs yet, but from my previous listening to the two companies, its usually a crap shoot between saying who is better.

Check ebay. The green dome ones (just a year or two old) are VERY cheap.

What if I mixed it up...How about the Infinity Kappa components up front, and the Reference 6 1/2's in the rear...How would that sound ??

That's the same exact set-up i have on my car. Plus a Basslink for lows.

I won't go into details anymore (given i've pretty much typed myself out in the past few weeks describing it here at the Org... use search)

Long story short. It's well worth the price you pay for it. And then some. (I got mine really cheap, lesser than you'd think... less than $100 for both sets)

At this point i would recommend you go to your local audio shop and sample them both. The decision should be from you since you'll be the one listening to it all the time

I have installed kappas in my 89 and they are the best speakers i have ever heard. if ur looking for speakers that state of the art and can handle up to 330 watts with perfect percision the infinitys are the way to go. and they dont run all that expensive go to sounddomain.com they have good prices.

I have the inf reference 605cs, bought it for $115 shipped at www.ikesound.com

The tweeters sound a little harsh but I'm guessing that has to do with my pos pioneer HU. My brother has Polk EX 6 1/2" coax's but we both like the sound from Infinity's better. My advice is swing for the kappas if you can, but reference over the polk.

Pics of my install

EDIT: Dang! After a brief search I found the Kappa 6 1/2" components for $169.00 here. You sure you still wanna buy from that other place?

The only thing is, that I dont have money to buy an amp, so I will be powering them from my Pioneer 50x4 HU, so the Kappas would be wasted.....So I was gonna go with the References....

Well , I went down to Circuit City today and I listened to the Infinity Reference components, and the new Polk EX3 series components..I was shocked !! The Infinitys sounded like crap !! I bought the Polks without a second thought....So much better than the Infinitys....The Polk EX3's are really a great sounding speaker
