Basically, any amp that can produce at least 100W RMS/channel with a low pass crossover (if you don't already have one). If your only running one sub, you may want to get a 3 channel amp, where 2 channels run the highs (tweeters) and the 1 channel runs the sub (mono). Or you can get a "sub amp" where you run the sub strictly off this amp because it has a low pass crossover already built in. Some of these amps even run two subs in "parallel". It all depends on how YOU want to run your system. There are so many options when it comes to car stereo. I hope this helps you out any.

i say put 500 watts to the single perfect. my recommendation for a 500 watt amp?? the jl 500/1

edit:that's jl audio 55/1, just stating that cause some new people to the audio area, confuse jbl and jl.

do not run a 500watt amp to that sub that will be a waste of power unless you plan on adding another one later. the 500watt amp will although allow you to run tesup longer and louder withoud overheating...but it will also cost a lot more. so just get a single amp 200-300watts rms not peak.
