Looking for suggestions on physical system layout....
Okay, as I mentioned in the Stealthbox post, my system is going to get installed in Jan/Feb. timeframe. What I've got to figure out now is where I want to put what.
I've got the Stealthbox going in the left-hand pocket of the trunk. That's not changeable.
Then, there's the amps: PPI PC2150 and PC4100. The 4100 is a little longer than the 2150. How should I lay these out?
Then there's the processors: PPI FRX456 x-over, the Phoenix Gold EQ232, and the Clarion DSP/EQ. Thought about the trunk lid for one or the other.
Any ideas? I need to just get all of it into the trunk and try some things, but I didn't know if anyone had dealt with this situation before. I'll also add that I want to keep the spare.

A couple other things...
Should I Dynamat or NoiseKill the trunk lid and trunk area?
How about the interior (man, do I hate thinking about all of my carpeting and headliner being taken out). I can just hear the rattles starting after things have been taken apart for the first time and loosened up.

While I don't have a nice trunk layout yet,
I will soon and here is what I'm thinking. I'm keeping my spare as well, but a good place to put the amps, is in a hinged door over the spare tire in a false floor.Niether one is very thick so the false floor wouldn't have to be raised much if any. Just have a box built so it drops into the tire well. I have my X-over mounted in my trunklid as well, and love it there. But I think the best choice for the lid would be the Phoenix Gold EQ, and I'd mount the x-over there as well. Place the DSP somewhere near the back seat. As far as sound treatment, I'd use a combo of both. anywhere you can spray the noise killer do it. Everywhere else use the Dynamat. I've also sen it done where after a layer or 2 of dynamat, Noisekiller is sprayed over it. Anyway, good luck when you do it. Have you desided where to get it done?
Re: While I don't have a nice trunk layout yet,
I'll probably get it done in Huntsville at a place called Traffic Jamz. They've done some pretty high quality stuff before, and they're only about 1/2 hour from my in-laws house, which is nice since Huntsville is about 1:45 from Birmingham. So, I can use the in-laws house as a base station.
The only hesitation that I have about putting the eq. on the trunk lit is the sliders. They stick out a pretty good ways, and I wouldn't want to cram the trunk full with stuff, close it, and have one of those snap off. I thought about getting them to mirror the Stealthbox on the other side of the trunk (where the jack is) and having them embed the x-over and eq on that. I'd at least have some symmetry there.
Wonder how much you'd have to raise the floor to get the amps in that area. I can't remember if the 4100 is wider than the spare area. If it is, then dropping it into that area wouldn't help too much. However, I like that idea of putting them there.
Thought about getting all of the stuff powdercoated and re-silkscreened, but gee, that seems like a lot of trouble. I've got grayish components, silver ones, a gold one, a black one. Ick!

The PC 4100 is about a foot wide right?
If so it would fit. The tub is around 19" to 20" as I remember.I like the idea on founting them on the other side of the trunk, but you could still have the same threat of breaking them off. a nice clear cover would fix that no matter where you mount it.In fact there to me would be a greater risk of mounting it on the side for fear os something sliding into it. But the trunk lid looks so cool. I'm relocating my jack and putting a 1 farad cap in it's place.
Re: The PC 4100 is about a foot wide right?
Actually, the 4100 is almost 2 ft. long, so I'd have to take a look at that. The 2150 is about 18" long. They're both about the same width (maybe 9").
Yeah, the eq. will definitely have to have some plexi over it. Maybe I'd do the FRX the same way.
The other problem with building up the floor is making the Stealthbox fit right. Remember, since it's slot-loaded, the slot faces the inner part of the trunk. If you build a floor up, you cover the slot unless you stop the false floor just short of it. You may want to keep that in mind as well for yours.

It would still fit.
one thing I didn't ask was are you planning on keeping the access hole in the back seat? If not, that opens up a whole range of ideas. That might be the easiest way to mount them, on the back , with the shorter over the longer. The EQ on the trunk lid, with the x-over, and DSP mounted in the trunk oposing the Stealthbox. Or forgoing the trunk lid, and sinking the EQ over the spare tire, under glass. Oh my brain!!!!!
(sorry, bored at work, and brainstormng is helping to keep my mind of some probs at home)

Re: My bad, I was thinking of the 4200.
Well, let's see. It's a 14" spare, right? Add some tire width, and I don't think we'd make it to the 23" mark.
The 4200 is a 4x50, right?

OK I just did some rough measuring
And the tub is right around 24" wide. I don't have my measuring tape with me so I used an 8 1\2"x11" notebook. So, I'm not sure, but it could fit. what can I say, I am so bored right now......
Re: OK I just did some rough measuring
Hmmm...That'd be tight with the RCA connectors on the ends. Have to make a "fake 4100" and test it out.
No, I don't plan to keep the skihole. Thought about mounting the x-over so that you could get to that from the interior, but there' not much point in that, I don't suppose. However, the setup you're talking about would work well if I could ventilate the stacked amps.
The EQ in the tub is a cool idea.

What were you planning on using for covering? Speaker carpet or vinyl?
cause if you mounted them onto the back of the seat, having a fiberglass panel covered in vinyl made to match the curves of the amps would look really nice IMO. So then all you see are the beutiful curved vinyl panels, with the tops of the amps showing and nothing else. Then use the access hole for the distribution block dressed up nice looking......
Sorry I'll leave you alone now...
