Screen between glove box and airbag - got some questions

Has anyone done this? I have a 97 GLE - no interior mods - but my fiancee and I make long trips often so it would be good to have. I know screens are getting pretty cheap and I want to know if I can hook it up for about $400 installed. TV tuner would probably be enough, we don't have DVDs, a VCR would be good too.

Thanks for any advice...

Thanks for the link - I need some more info on the cost/feasability of the installation before I buy one though...

Sorry for trying to help. I thought that's what these forums were for. I happened to have some screens that fit your needs/budget, so I let you know. Hopefully gives you an idea of what a good deal on brandname monitors is. But thanks for the attitude.

are you talking about.. puttin in there permanently? a hole cut and flush mounted? or just stuck there for the trip? sure it is feasable, easily, just a little imagination.

I was thinking cutting a hole and mounting it recessed a little bit so that it could be covered up (I don't have an alarm)... However I like your idea better - how much "installation" is involved in hooking up the screen/TV/DVD? I saw something at Fry's today for $250 - mobile screen and DVD with a remote - but I'm wary of the quality of anything at Fry's... I'm hoping it's just splicing into a 12v line but I'd like to be able to turn it on/off... I think I'll do some searches in this forum but if anyone has any links or whatever I'd appreciate it...

Thanks

this may help

audiovox sells a dvd/w 5inch screen in a bag all u have to do is plug it in ur lighter... about under 400 bucks....

dont bother getting a screen with a bulit in tv tuner they all suck.. the recption is bad and the pic flips even with diversity antenna's ... i think u can get 2 monitors and a dvd player for like 600 bucks... look online for them.... if u live in the nyc area canal st in the city has crazy deals on screens... i saw a pyle view
5.6 for 80 bucks.... but the pic was ok but u really need to view that screen at night..

U say you want it covered up...So are you saying you want it cut into the dash between the uperpart of the dash (by airbag) and just about the glove...The way I'm reading this...this is the local and you want to have it motorize (or somthing like that) out of that spot and pop up kinda like the indash stuff but diff spot...Try to explain this better if I'm off...But if I'm not real far off what you talking about is not for the novice installer (cutting the dash) nor would it be cheap.

I think I found an easier solution - buy a DVD drive for my laptop (~$50) and get one of those power converter things so I can plug it in to the lighter socket...

The reason I wanted the TV was for football season - we always drive back on Sunday afternoons... I think this solution is good just cuz of the screen size, built-in sound, and wide availability... Now I just need to find out of they make good TV cards for laptops...

Thanks for the info all
