Do Bassblockers really work? Mine suck!!
Do Bassblockers really work? Mine suck!!
I got four from Crutchfield and I tried them on my rear three-ways (some 50 watt rms kenwoods) and they sound like thud all the time. I have a Kenwood head w/ 35 watts max and 18 rms. What da dealie? I thought they were supposed to like ELIMINATE the bass (below 150 Hz) not make the speakers choke on it. I had the things on the positive side of the speakers as instructed. Somebody tell me if bass blockers are actually worth a crap.
Re: Do Bassblockers really work? Mine suck!!
I've heard them in some systems where they make the speakers sound great, getting rid of bass distortion. But on my car they didn't work at all. When I turned the system up the speakers would make a clipping noise, and even cause the CD to skip. I think those specific ones were just messed up or something but I never got any new ones to find out.

A bass blocker is a simple 6 dB per octave passive crossover. Or in simpler terms a capacitor. They are anywhere from a few cents to a few dollars and can work if installed properly with the correct values. One problem many hear is that the music is less lively with less bass, and people attribute this lack of bass as a lack of musicality. But, you get what you pay for.
