For auto-x only? Roadrace/track use too? Combination of that and street use? And rain or not?

Hey I'm Maxima Obsessed  It's about time.

Mostly for the street, and a little track use.

Well if you don't mind your speed-o-meter being a little off I'd suggest getting the Kumho Ecsta MX, Falken Azenis Sport, or Bridgestone S03's in 225/45/17. Out of those three I'd pick the falkens. Besides the falken being a great preformance tire it's pretty well behaved. I didn't get a chance to drive them in the rain, but I heard they're not really that bad. Or you can get the Goodyear Eagle RSA in your stock size :(

Good Luck and take your time and do your research.

why do you reccomend a smaller size than stock? Less sidewall motion??

Yes, less sidewall motion and quicker turn-in. Also if you do a search on tires for 225/50/17 on tireracks site you'll only get 8 result and two of them are the RE92's tire just different speed ratings. None are performance summer tires.
