Fun Running the Maxima at Waterford Hills

Check out what the Maxi can do...

http://www.waterfordhills.com/

Scroll down to What's New section and click on results. You'll need adobe acrobat reader. I'm in run group 6.

A quick recap of the day....My first few laps I got more and more confident, shaving seconds off my time each lap. By lap 4, I was going WOT all the way down the back straight, hitting almost 90, and braking as late as possible. Unfortunately, the brakes were already heated up and my tires were mush, so I slid off the track at turn 6, briefly. I slowed down, regained control, and got back onto the track to finish the lap. The grid crew told me I had to slow down for my last lap, which I did, but only to the point of being smoother through the turns. Result: quickest lap of the day. Too bad for lap 4, I could've taken home a first place trophy.

Also, for the morbidly curious, check out run group 10. The guy in the red ferrari only got one good lap in. On his second, he lost control at Bluff Bend, and slid off the track sideways into a concrete barrier. Nobody was hurt, and the guy walked away, but the car had to be trailered home. FYI, insurance won't cover it.

Congrats man, Nice job. But what exactly was that. Was it an Autox, or a solo trials. Or was it more like the OTC challenge.

Thanks. The event was run like an SCCA Solo 1 event. But it was really meant as a day for the track workers, pit crews, and sponsors to get to drive on the track once after the regular season. None of the drivers that day had competition licenses, but that doesn't mean they weren't quick. I autocross once in a while but I never had a chance to drive on a track until that day, and it was blast.

Ok so it was like a Solo Trials event. Basically a Solo one but without Solo Rules. Thats sweet. Congrats. I've done a couple track days in my miata and Learned the hard way that your street car does not belong on a Race track. Turn 13 tire wall at sebring has my name on it as well as Turn 12 when I overheated the car and came to a stop there. I managed to Destroy a set of my Autox tires at roebling road and Find 2nd instead of 4th on a down shift along with several off roading experiences coming out of turn 9. Race tracks are fun but I'm avoiding them Unless I have another car to drive home. The really amazing thing is the car is up for sale now and still purs like a Kitten. I'm advertising it as "only driven on sundays". I'm hoping some old lady will buy it and never notice all the abuse it's been through.
