Any autocrossers here with 300ZX brakes?

I run DSP, and I'm not incredibly impressed with my brakes (slotted rotors with Axxis Metal Masters and SS lines with Ford DOT4 fluid). I know the 300ZX upgrade isn't too expensive, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the brakes on a course of any sort (autox or road racing).

- I hardly ever even USE my brakes while AutoXing, but I like my setup (see sig). Same setup was fine on Roebling Road, although I did cook 'em at Sebring going into Turn 10. EEEKKKK

Switch over to Porterfield R4S's or Axxis Ultimates and see how you like 'em.

300ZX brakes on stock caliper mounts require a SMALLER rotor, reducing effective brake torque because of the smaller roter (although the 4-pistons increase the area... which might increase it enough to compensate). Since I've never heard of anyone fading stock rotors/aftermarket pads/aftermarket fluid/ss lines in auto-x I don't think 300ZX brakes would be a worthwhile upgrade, as the 300ZX upgrade IMHO is primarily for fade resistance rather than a stopping-power upgrade.

But hell if you have money to burn, try it. I'd just go to www.fastbrakes.com and get something...

I run Porterfield R4S too and I can lock up the tires if I get too aggressive with em. They work much better when warmed up so I ride the brakes outta grid if it's my first run. Maybe Axxis Metal Masters need more heat too? Are they any better after a couple of runs?

the 300zx brakes helps me modulate my brakes better too, it's not all about fade. but yah, u would agree if you got money to burn, the precision brakes are worth looking into.
personally i'm not a huge fan of wilwood, i mean they aren't bad, but i would definately prefer a caliper that has thicker piston walls. i.e., brembo, ap, stoptech.

Probably.

I'm not 100% sure though. I used to auto-x a few times a year, but for the last 6 months I've just been running Streets of Willow and Buttonwillow, so I can't say about R4S's and auto-x'ing, because I've only had them on road courses.

AH! good point. I'd forgotten about that.
