Question on Novice classes...
Question on Novice classes...
So I've been running STX and NSTX the last few times I've been to the Auto X..
(totally unrelated here, but...) When I was competing in IASCA soundoffs, you were only allowed to compete in novice classes for the first season you ran.
Well I ran two auto X events last season and ran once this year, all in STX and NSTX for more track time. When I signed up at the last event, I asked how long I can run in novice class.. the reply was "You can run Novice until you win your class"
Soooo, at the first event this year, I ended up taking Novice class... Does this mean I can no longer compete in Novice, or are they talking about winning a regional/major event before I can no longer run Novice?
here's the link to the scoring of the event.. I'm #88 STX (obviously, since I'm the only maxima there)..
http://www.neokla-scca.org/SoloII/Ev...s/030903.shtml
In either case, what other classes are there available, since I don't want to run just in STX?
(legally I shouldn't even be running in STX because of my subframe connectors, but since I'm so slow, they don't complain- or haven't yet.
)
Is it correct to assume that PSTX is simply the non-novice PAX class? They don't to much in the way of explaining things here in po-dunk oklahoma.

Re: Question on Novice classes...
- Novice is kind of a flexible thing from what I understand. Generally, you can run the class three times and then go to your normal class. If you've had experience before (track days and such) and you win Novice, then they might bump you into your normal class after your first event.
- Don't know about the whole novice-for-a-whole-season thing. Maybe it depends on the region. Anyone have a rulebook they can check for us?

that's kinda what I was thinking... I read somewhere else you could only run novice for 3 events.. I guess that was my 3rd event anyway.
I guess I'll just find out Sunday. these guys don't exactly go by the rulebook anyway. pretty laid back on how they do things.. (back to the subframes thing.. at every event, I make it very clear to officials what I've done to the car, many things of which should throw me directly into prepared class, yet they say to still run in STX.) ahh well.. it's all about fun anyway. I don't have the time to compete on a full-season basis, so I go when I've got time...

at my group i won novice on my second time out, and im not sure how long they will let me stay there.. but i will stay as long as i can since winning novice means i autoX for free!
but yeh from what i understand too novice is a flexible thing that everybody does a little different.

As I understand it, you can run the novice class as long as you only ran 3 or less event the previous year. You can run novice for the entire first season that you quailify to run novice in. And winning your class would mean having the most point in that class at the end of the season... not just winning one event. rules can and do vary with the region though.
BTW I just finished my 7th event of this season in STS-Novice.
