How much should I pay for a helmet?

I didn't want to post a topic just for this, but I started to search online and all I found was stuff from 120 for a POS with no face to a vented tubed for 700+.

Obviously I have no need for a 700 dollar helmet. I just want something that will be useable in competition, and provide adequate protection if I screw up. Was the site I saw unreasonable or are good full face helmets really going to runn at about 2 to 3 hundred?

For auto-x'ing you need a snell 90 or 95 helmet. I paid 120 for mine and removed the face cover. Don't worry your not going to flip over...unless the course is all jacked up. j/k Just get what will get you by according to the rules.

I paid $150 for my GF850 but it's now on sale for $110 at
http://www.racerwholesale.com

If I had to buy again I'd get an open face. Little easier to breath and open sides make it safer in grid & pits. The only diff between M and SA is the Nomex lining so unless your running open track go with the M which doesn't get as hot.

I picked up one at a local bike shop for $85. Don't remember the brand name, but it's an open face, yet still rated for the requirements of the local track, so I can use it for open track days as well as auto X.

Open face M2000 for $100, full face M2000 or open face SA2000 for $150, full face SA2000 for $200 which is the one I have:

I need an SA for open track events. If you are just doing drag and autoX an M2000 is fine. I don't like open face helmets so I went with full face.

Think ahead, if at minimum you may go to a OT event then get a full face SA helmet. Don't penny pinch when it comes to your life! I have the Bell M2.

agreed...

I paid $300 for my Bell Sport 2. I use it for karting, drag racing, autocrossing, open tracks, motorcycles, etc. it's a SA00', so when i get around to buying another (in 4-5 years, or if i ever crash) plan on spending $500 for a forced induction helmet.

Don't skimp out on a helmet.

dont skimp on the helmet, but at the same time - i dont think spending 1000+ on a helmet is worth it, i'd probably keep my budget to about 400 bucks
