Heal Toe Shifting
Heal Toe Shifting
I was wondering if anyone has tried heal/toe ****ing at the track. I have a 01 5spd and it seems that the accelerator is way down and far away from the brake pedal to let me heel/toe. Any thoughts???
my pedals work really well for heal toe shifting but u have to actually press the brake with the left side of ur foot and press the gas with the right side. try practicing pressing both pedals while u are stopped and the car is in neutral
My 2002 pedals are useless for heal/toe braking. I can get away with it under very light braking, but under heavy braking at the track it's next to impossible and I have tried two sets of pedals. The brake pedal just goes down too far effectively H/T at track speeds. Oh well such is life...
what i used to do for my rice rocket was i put a peice of wood behind the aftermarket pedals so it would make it taller. bolted the wood on the stock gas pedal and then screwed the aftermarket pedal on the peice of wood.. hella easier to heal toe
yup.. what Mingo said... the gas pedal is just too far misaligned with the brake to effectively twist your foot around to do it. the only other way I've been able to do it is to put my heel on the brake pedal and tap the gas with my toe.. pretty hard to do as you're trying to aim for the apex under 1+ lateral Gs and your legs don't want to go where you tell them...
I had no problems h/t shifting with the 2000+ (2001 SE and 2002SE). Just that you dont actually heel toe (leg cant get under wheel) i brake witht he ball of the right foot and match revs with the outside midfoot. Its real easy to do with practice. Once you get it down it becomes a natural reaction. I dont think this matters, but i wear size 15D shoes, that might help.

Although to Matt93SE's point, It's pretty d@mn hard while cornering. In most cases I downshift before the turns and high g's while AutoXing. It's possible because our courses are set up for two gears max. Doing anything while hard cornering in the Max is a PITA since I feel like I'm sitting on a park bench, sliding all over.

someone initially referred me to www.turnfast.com for some pointers. as for our maximas, pedal placement is terrible! what do you expect from a family sedan? i'm trying to get in on the groupdeal posted in the general forums. i've learned that i have to turn my knee inside to get a little extra angle on the throttle blip. it's a bit of a contorted position, but if you practice it becomes second nature. i personally think it would be extremely difficult to safely heel/toe on the stock pedals when driving at 100%. it's already hard enough at 60%. aftermarket screw on pedals are needed.
