rim size vs weight

I have 17x7.5 15.5lb rims right now. I've been thinking of 18x8 20lb rims. Is there any benefit or detraction for upsizing? My car is road-course emphasis, and rare autox. thanx

Shouldn't be too much of a penalty. Little slower coming out of corners and have to brake a touch earlier coming into em. Suspension's not gonna be quite as happy with that extra 5lbs+ per corner (assuming tires are heavier too). Don't know if the extra .5" width will help cornering - kinda depends on your setup & tire size.

BEJAY1, thanx for your reply. The Max is a slug already, so I'm counting on driver skill and suspension setup to bail me out. I'll be running 235 in either diam/width. What about rolling over the sidewalls (pinching)? Is 7.5" ok with 235wide for high speed, sharp turns?

slammed95: Just pads and rims/tires right now (pads make a huge diff... I brake later and more confidently before entering a turn, which is where I gain the most distance). I needa call around to more companies that make springs to learn more about them and possibly have a custom set made. As for now, I hafta be really smooth and "pre-load" everytime I take a turn. I pay a lot of attention to shifting weight right now, which's great practice instead of relying on a fstb too much, which I don't have either.

Track day Jan 3, still on. U goin slammed95?

That extra weight and bigger wheels (larger radius and moment of inertia) might make a noticeable difference in pickup. Lighter and smaller is faster but thats only if you are trying to maximize pickup and can find tires you like for the rims... Im happy with my 15x6.5 @ 12 lbs Rota Slipstreams but now they come in more sizes.

Theyre $450 for a set and free shipping.... If you dont mind looking a bit dorky when on your track wheels. I just want to be fast!
