Which Racing Gloves to buy?

I posted this on another forum but since there are a few of you who regularly race, I thought I should try my first home for opinions also

I want a good price on gloves with good enough quality for occasional road racing. I could always use better grip on my stock steering wheel. I'm really into the ones that provide good feel, meaning pretty thin leather material on the fingers/palms.

GForce, Sparco, and Pyrotect seem pretty good, but I'd like to hear from people who own gloves that they like.

Also, could someone explain SFI ratings? It's tough to search for a three letter term on google.

I've also been recommended FET (japanese brand) and Signal Auto, for their superb feel. Thanks for the help.
