G35 wants to beat me...

I was over on the crossroadracing forum (which is mostly local autocross guys) and it turns out the G35 (sedan) that runs CDC autocross - the driver of which I've never met - joined up last week. At any rate, I inquired as to who was running at the next event and he replied that he will be there, to continue his season-long goal "to beat me".

I'll take it as a complement from a G35 driver that his goal is to beat the maxima (he hasn't done it so far)

he appears to be a stock 05 G35 sedan except for Falken Hanabi 17's (nice and light) with shaved azenis.....

kind of funny, since one of my goals this season at the events has been to beat HIM, among some of the other large sedans out there

(another guy in a Mazdaspeed protege (modded) opined that he would have no problem beating me (again), for what it's worth)

His goals aren't that high, my goal is to beat a mini-s in G-stock this season. The mini-s driver will have to have a bad day, and I'll have to have a good one, but that's where I'm shooting (in the clouds ).

How much did the protoge beat you by last time? Bring him up to Ripken, the longer course (not as tight) wil favor the max in those cases.

the MSP was running 12-lb wheels and r-comps....he beat me fairly handily - he was the 2nd fastest of all the FWD cars out there as I recall)....that guy is getting ready for some subaru challenge thing he's running in, so he said he's going to drive his almost-stock Forester this week...should be interesting....

my goal is usally just to beat all of the larger sedans out there. On the tight courses we run I can't even come close to a cooper S.....I'll definitely get up to ripken eventually...keep me posted on events!

I assume he's a RWD and not the X-AWD. Those cars are pigs on tight courses. From what I could tell they like to power and fishtail around turns. Wide open courses would be tougher but you should take him on tighter ones.

I think within reason, auto-x times are more dependant on the driver vs the car. But if you lose so what? hehe. You are in a maxima. But if HE loses..... haha

Yeah the AWD version weights like 3650 lbs. Maxima may be FWD, but it's a heck of alot lighter.

its the worst automotive show on tv, the commercials say some crap about bringing back real racing for slips...yet all they do is argue about how many lengths each guy gets and then they make up excuses for why they lost

exactly. While drag racing isn't my cup o'tea, I like the show. The go-cart show was especially entertaining, since they actually had guys with real experience in it. As far as making excuses, we ALL do it....We'll blame tires or something before blaming ourselves, even tho WE have to DRIVE the car....

Oh yeah? Well it's my goal as well to place at least one second faster than Josh by the end of the season. At my first event I quickly realized that it takes more than mods to beat people....need to step up the skill level....in fact, if I can come close to Josh I'll be happy, since he sets his goals high.

Shaved azenis does little to nothing for performance trust me...and as for the sponsorship goes im the only guy here that defends maximas and their performance capabilites. It gets kind of hard when everyone here drives 240's evo's, sti's and cobra's. I hate to bring this up if its a guy on the org, this kid sent in a sponsorship proposal for his 4th gen max and all he had was tint that was turning purple and a HUGE maxima sticker across the front windshield. The car was still dirty and had brake dust on his sawblades...needless the say the guys laughed the whole day..

Not true from my sources. Even the newer 615's need at least 3/32" scrubbed off to eliminate their squirm. And lots of brand new 215's are coming out of closets & bags for next month in Topeka

I probably wouldn't even want to get sponsored...then you have to have the huge-*** banners on the car. I like to be sleeper even on the track

Josh,
regarding racing G35's

6. 54/DS BRUAN > 39.394 <
TIMES: 1) 42.837( 1) 2) 42.392( 1) 3) 41.991( 1) 4) 39.394
5) 39.541
Braun was driving a G35, I don't think he had Hoosiers, but he had good ST tires.

6. 85/STS NORM, PHILA > 40.269 <
TIMES: 1) 41.464 2) 41.735 3) 41.616 4) 41.275
5) 40.269
Here's Norm in his (now) dreaded (to me anyway) 626

13. 77/NC JOHN > 41.553 <
TIMES: 1) 41.719 2) 41.940 3) 41.553 4) 42.386
5) 43.264

And here's me, with my lame-o excuse of losing to Norm because I had my cousin in the car. I also was trying 45/40 f/r pressures this time instead of my usual 42/50, I will say this, Kumho's don't overheat. As I mentioned in the other thread I screwed up the last two runs.
If we run 10/2 I will try again, it would be interesting to see what happens at Ripken between the 3 people above (if we all show up at the same time).
