Wrapup thread - Ripken Stadium SCCA Event 10/30

EDIT:
Video is fixed!

Results are posted down below someplace but several org'ers showed up:

Me (5th gen)
Cutler (driving his more-modded-now Miata)
97SEDriver (4th gen)
Norm Peterson (driving his Mazda 626)

plus Puppetmaster, Patrick Henry, and Soonerfan there are pit crew/cameramen.

Perfect day for an autocross (mid-60s), though a bit windy. Ripken Stadium has a very good sized course (by far the biggest I've run on in a few years) and except for a small dip the surface is smooth as well.

Anyhow, as you might know I up-classed to STU...don't know where I finished out of the 5-6 STU cars there, but I know for sure that I was beaten by 3 STi's, beat out one STi, and not sure where the M3s finished...

FTD for me was 50.4 or so, though my final run of 49.7 (?) was marred by too much aggressiveness as I knocked over two cones on the finish gate ..... FTD in STU class was in the 46's as I recall.

Norm drove the 626 and I'm not sure what his times were....97SE drove in GStock (right?) and put up times around 52 sec (very impressive for a stock 4th gen IMO), also had a nice encounter with several cones ending with him dragging one around the track

Cuter's Miata, after quite a few new mods and tires, is getting faster as he gets better driving...his FTD was around 51 seconds I think in STX2.

That does it for the season for me....will go pure STX next year with 245s and 17x8's...more rubber today would have knocked at least 1 or 2 seconds off my time today!

I only have a few photos (will post tomorrow), but some of the other guys took alot of them, so hopefully they'll post them here

SOME VIDEO (hmm, not there yet...I'll post when it's up)

I'm actually pretty sure John's wheel is off in both pics, even though ya can't really tell in the 2nd one... gotta keep in mind that his car is stock except for a POP charger... definitely had some good runs in there considering what he was working with.

It's really too bad, because after my one ride along I figured you could get sub 50's.

I beat Norm by less than half a second, which is fine with me.
Those cones had it coming, they were looking at me funny!

They do have a winter series, last winter they actually ran an auto-x in the snow. I'm not really into that though, not sure if it would help or hurt my PAX.

There's definately some corner stresses out there vs road courses. Be glad you weren't this driver who probably crapped their pants.

It looks more like some driving show, how is it possible to get this kind of car on two wheels on a smooth surface?

Didn't want to post ***** away from the thread topic but sufice to say race rubber + grippy surface + stock suspension > just lifting a rear wheel.

Results have been posted. Guess I needed a 5th run, eh?

I happened to talk to the driver of the #97 DM Lotus 7 clone - it's a daily driver and too much fun not to be. It's driven to events with the race tires on a rack that attaches to the roll structure. BTW, that's me in the background of Puppet's pic of the #97 (getting ready to work grid for 4th heat).

107. 20/STX JOHN CASERTA (0.802) 41.244
108. 444/STU JOSH HICKEY (0.818) 41.287
109. 88/AS JIM WEST, PHILA (0.828) 41.299
110. 130/STS2 JASON REYNOLDS (0.803) 41.429
120. 85/STS NORM PETERSON, PHILA (0.799) 42.353

Norm had a bad day, or the course was just better for the rest of us. The STU classification obviously really killed Josh,(and GS obviously really helped me) since he was 2 seconds faster than me in raw time. If he would have run STX, STS or anything else without a 0.818 multiplier he would have also been 1st in PAX in our trash talking group.
BUT, once again, if you look in my class guess how many Mini's ran? Well actually there was only 5, 2 had two drivers. I am the lone idiot that will run against the Mini's in that class, there is no one else left.

well, I will be rolling on those same 17's with Blizzak LM22's (V-rated) all winter. If they have an event in the snow, I might just have to give it a go

So you gonna run the SENTRA next year or what?
And it should be illegal to have so many damn colors in your sig Mr. Sig Police.....

I wish I could have made the event, sounds like it was a lot of fun, and fitting for cars our size. Do they have anything after November 14th? I'll be back in the US and my clutch will be broken in

They had a winter series last year, and they were talking about it this year. So, yes they probably will have something after the 14th, just not sure if any of the rest of us will go again.
You might be able to e-twist some arms though.

Josh signed up as STU, which is specifically why I beat him in the index, he could have (should have?) signed up as STX (or I think STS).
