Azenis width vs. wheel offset

My brain is not working correctly right now, can't do calculations. Anyhow...with the fact that the Azenis 615s are quite a bit wider vs. same size in "other tires" I'm thinking about what wheel offset I will get with them. I don't want any rubbing, so here's the situation:

Tires; Azenis 615 245/45/17 (unfortunately, 245/40/17 not available, nor are 235/45/17....)
Wheels 17x8 - but I have option on the wheel of 35 or 43mm offset. 5th gen stock is of course 45mm offset with 225/50/17 rubber.

I'm a bit afraid that with 35mm offset, the azenis will rub quite a bit because the tread is quite a bit wider than my 235/40/18's with 30 offset (18x8) street setup.

Should I go with the 43 offset (and will there be enough clearance on the inner side of the wheel well?

Keep in mind these wheels/tires will ONLY be used for autocross/road courses....

thoughts? I can't think straight tonight, what with all the holiday festivities for the last 18 hours or so

How much wider are they?
I know that BlackBIRDVQ has 255 mm tires on 17x8 with 38mm offset (http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....34#post4572934) With his setup the distance between the wheel hub and the outer side of the tire is [-38+ (255/2)] = 89.5 mm and the distance between the hub and the inner side of the tire is [38+(255/2)] = 165.5 mm

If you ganna get the wheels with 35mm offset the distance to the outer side will be [-35+(245/2)] = 87.5mm and the distance to the inner side will be [35+(245/2)] = 157.5mm
So if Azenis are not 4mm wider than “other tires” of the same size there should be no rubbing problems with 35mm offset wheels.

(That’s the way I think it should be calculated )

How much room do you have currently between the inside tire sidewall and spring? According to this you'll loose .5 to .7" inside I believe which is quite a bit. Either way you're narrowing the track width from your street setup which isn't desireable in front.

I don't know about CDC but you may also want to watch the outside of the tire, you may not be allowed to have it extend outside the fender lip.

hece my question. I was all set to go with the 35offset/245 azenis, but then realized that the tread width of the Azenis in 245 is wider than most tires.

For example, the 245 Azenis have a tread width of 9.1 inches
but the Hankook R-S2's in 245 width have a width of 8.7 inches

.4 inch difference

My street setup (235/40/18 on 18x8 30mm offset) does not extend past the fender in the front, and has never rubbed.

The only rubbing I've ever gotten are my 235/50/17 Blizzaks inthe rear on 17x8 35mm offset wheels, but I think that's because of the increased diameter.

Hmm...that setup Mike (Blackbird) has for sale is nice...though I don't know about the tires

What I’m saying is that if he got no rubbing (I hope so) with 255mm tires on 38mm offset wheels you should not have any rubbing problems with 245mm tires on 35mm offset wheels either.

good point... worst case scenario I roll the fenders, I guess

by the way, noticed that edgeracing.com has the 17x8 Enkei RPO2's on sale for $105!!!! That is crazy low for a light wheel like that...I wonder what the story is with them...I've always heard good things about Enkeis for track use
