Under steer

I have an 06 max, I absolutely love it. I used to autocross with a 95 golf. I am considering maybe going out this summer with this new car. My concern is the amount of understeer that this car has. I would rather not like to put a set up together that eatcs 18" tires but I would like it to drift a little when I want it to.

The easiest thing to do would be to get an RSB (rear sway bar) which will make the rear of the car a bit stiffer and allow a better front weight distribution. I'm not sure if RSBs are available for a 6th gen though...

You can also lower your car on aftermarket springs with higher than stock rear/font spring rate ratio and increase your front camber. It won't be as affective as RSB but it'll enhance other handling characteristics as well, which are far more important than under/over steer balance.

Also try running with a full tank of gas and spare tire back there. From the factory the car is about 61f/39r weight dist. That's measured with gas but no driver. Add a 200lb driver on an empty tank and you're fighting a 66/34 balance. At least keep the rear weight to make it 63/37. The gas and spare are down low for centerofgrav, and you've got the power to pull it.
