Harness Question

Does anyone have a four or five point harness in their maxima and have pics or info? Just curious to see if there are and the setups people have.
Thanks

G-Force 3" 5-point (though I don't use the submarine strap, so it's really a 4-point). I bought the version with extended shoulder straps and they clip into eye bolts mounted using the rear seatbelt bolt holes (have to take back seat bottom out).

I use a corbeau 4 point. its basically a copy of the schroth. It has a clip in the middle so I can disconnect the shoulder straps from the rear mounts to use the back seat. I prefer the 2" wide belts over the 3" for autocross use.

Agreed...in retrospect I wish i had gone with 2", but the 3" were too good of a deal to pass up.

FYI, the straps that go over your shoulder should not be more than a 40 degree angle downward. It's said to be dangerous if thats the case.

true, but for autocross purposes it's not really an issue. There is virtually no chance of hitting anything hard enough to create the downward forces on the harness for spiine compression to happen. Now, on a road course...that's another story.

Unfortunately, without a rollbar or harness bar, there's not much you can do about the angle on the maxima.

i'd say mine is at about a 40-degree angle or so anyhow....

each to his own I guess. Of course we'd all prefer to do track days...but logistically and financially autocross is easier for most.

if your tires are 225's or smaller, and street tires, you can run in sts.

Well it would be nice if at least you found the right thread before you posted. this thread is about harnesses... like seatbelts. Has nothing to do with ECUs or ECU harnesses. Read the thread before posting man.

Do any of you harness guys have a roll bar? I was talking to some people that said that harnesses without a roll bar/cage are a horrible, dangerous idea because if you roll over you cant duck. I suppose so, but it just isnt very convincing...

yeah a harness without a roll bar is very dangerous if you were to roll over... thats why you shouldnt use the harness on the street or road course without a roll bar. but it is ok to use a harness without a roll bar at autox because the speeds arent really high enough to roll a heavy car like the maxima

So you use the stock belts on the street and throw the harness on at an autox?

yes. who wants to deal with a harness on the street? they're not as comfortable as a seatbelt, a PITA to put on and adjust, and they ride up on your stomach if you don't have them cranked down tight and have a submarine strap.

Even if they were safe to use on the street, I still wouldn't want to use mine.

Im looking to get a racing harness put in so I can stop sliding all over the damn seats when cornering. It is now getting to the point where it's slowing me down on the corners. The problem is so bad my steering height adjustment comes loose on corners.

I only road course this car and need a good setup in the future to pass tech for certain racing clubs, so there maybe a harness bar in my plans. But for now im looking to get a 3 or 4 point harness. Problem on the 4th gen there is only one seatbelt bolt hole on the rear bench that's OK for a harness bolt in point.

Now are you guys bolting the two rear straps of a 4 point to this one point or are you using some other method? I saw a setup on a 4th gen where it was a 4 point harness but the rear two straps plugged into a single strap. Then this single strap was bolted to the rear seatbelt mounting point. I did not get the name of the maker of the harness so im at a loss as to where to buy it.

Im in need of something quick because the next track event is on the 19th. Over the winter im going to get quotes from race shops and see how bad it would be for a real setup.

why don't you just get a CG-lock until you feel you need more or get a real harness bar? cheaper solution for now until you figure out what you want to do...I have one and it works great since I never got that harness bar made and took out my cam lock 5 point

CG's a great device but think grassroots cheapo too. Baby seats come with these cool little locking clips that do the same thing. I got a couple from Burlington Coat factory for $3 ea.

There is a free solution as well. Buckle up, push the seat to the back a little, pull the belt fast(!) to lock it and readjust the seat. Learned that @ autox driving school.

Yes but when you accelerate it tends to unlock.

So where can I get a harness bar ? I'm interested in one for my Maxima. I have a 4 point Sparco harness in the car right now that I use when doing HPDEs. I don't autoX and I have a set of Corbeau Legacy seats in the car also..... seats help ALOT but the harness keeps you planted. I need a submarine strap, by the end of each session I have my harness up at my chest almost. Its times like this I wish I had a big belly that I could tuck the harness under

there isn't one for our cars, you will have to have a custom one made...there is a guy I have close to me that will do it, but I've been really busy as well as he has otherwise I would have one already.

I can vouch for those CG locks working pretty well. I bought them back in October and used them at two HPDEs. On the 19th I went back to NHIS with the CGs and they made a definite improvement. Also went for the first time to Limerock on the 2nd of November. It's still not the same as a full harness but for the price and ease of installtion you can't go wrong.

Now I need to ditch the stock '98 SE springs/struts that I've been using this season for something stiffer. At NHIS it works OK with the lines that I drive, but the body roll at the higher speeds experienced at Limerock convinced me otherwise.
