How does these prices sound? Tico's Auto Shop, Chicago, IL
Hey all, took my car to the shop to see what they could do, since I been pulling some codes on the CEL.
First of all the owner of the shop, is not nearly as enthusiastic about getting the most out of our cars, take that with a grain of salt. However, he's fixed my mom's car several times, and being a good girl consumer, she always comes out happy, so I decided to try him for my car.
What I liked about the experience is that Tico was willing to take some time to discuss the car with me himself. I told him what I was experiencing, and he would do his best to show me things are broken, and he was not so happy that I was telling him that I was able to check the Error codes of my car with the screwdriver trick...my screw driver was telling me what his $1000+ ODB Scanner was telling him, so I calmed him by explaining how his scanner had quite some more info, yah i took it easy on the ol' guy.
Anyways, here's the quote:
Brake Boots Front Axel: $325 incl labor
Brakes + Pads (mentioned cutting them too): $300 incl labor
For the Error Codes: P0500 (Vehicle Speed Sensor) & P1400 (E.G.R Control Solenoid)
EGR Valve Costs $133 + labor
The Speed Sensor: I might replace by myself. He said it could get really complicated disassembling the instrument cluster (I agree).
I'm not sure if he really wanted my business, could have been a bit more hospitable and open minded, but he's an ol' timer and not just that, just needs to catch up with this great Information Age.
So my end bill was $35 to diagnose all these problems based on the symptoms i was passing onto him.
I left with an overall good experience, because one of his staff was more forthcoming with information, he actually looked up the prices for the components I needed and tomorrow i'll be taking the maxima for an exterior detailing for about $95
So this is what I would like to ask everyone in the forums: are these prices tolerable?
