Avoid Davis Nissan

Davis Nissan (in Davis, CA near Sacramento) is by far the worst dealership I've ever had the displeasure of bringing my Maxima to.

First, they overcharge for every service and don't even do all the things they list on the service order. When I was stupid enough to have my 15k service there, they failed to rotate my tires and reported fake brake wear readings (it was obvious they never took off my wheels, so how could they measure the brake pad thickness?).

Second, the service advisors and technicians there are complete idiots. I took my Maxima in for them to check out a whining noise from the engine and they told me it sounded normal. So I asked them to start up another 4th gen and compare. Side by side, my Maxima was ringing like a telephone and they couldn't hear the noise. I told them it was the alternator and to do a load test to see if the noise got louder. They refused, saying that alternators don't break on Maximas. Well a day later, my alternator went out. I had my car towed to Davis Nissan (closest dealership) and they didn't have the part and could not get one until a week. I couldn't wait that long and told them I was willing to pay for a rush delivery from another dealership nearly which did have the alternator. Well, they said it would cost $300 just for delivery. How ridiculous. I ended up having my Maxima towed to the other dealer and getting my car repaired there.

Incidentally, the other dealer didn't have the right alternator so they went to another dealer to get it. I asked the service advisor there, and he told me that Nissan pays for delivery of parts between dealers if it is a warranty repair. Davis Nissan tried to gaffle me out of $300!!!

Within the SF Bay Area I have had decent experiences with Turner Nissan in Sacramento and Serramonte Nissan in San Francisco.

Jane never had any problems with Davis Nissan. When she took her car in for oil changes, they would rotate her tires and spray her car with the treated water (non-spotting thingy) solution.

We have plenty of probs with Serramonte Nissan. The best service advisor has to be Irwin...

Yeah one thing nice about Davis Nissan is that they wash your car with every service. But that's sort of expected, right? But the fact that they fouled up three warranty repairs (headlight, fan blower, alternator) ranks Davis Nissan as an "F" in my book.

I liked Serramonte Nissan because they fixed my leaking oil sending unit in just one afternoon, even though I called in that same day for an appointment.

I guess everyone has different experiences with dealerships. Maybe Davis Nissan was better when it was "Davis Nissan." It recently got bought out and is called "Chase Nissan" now. I've only dealt with Chase Nissan so maybe that's why Jane and I got different treatments there.

Did you get your alternator fixed before or after the buyout? When we left, it was still called Davis Nissan so this "Chase Nissan" is new to me.

Who's your service rep at Serramonte (or do you just walk up to someone)? Try avoiding Larry next time you go. I've heard from an inside source that he hates ricers (not that we are).

I think my service rep at Serramonte Nissna was Larry! But this was all before I modded out my Maxima.

It was Chase Nissan when my alternator broke. It really doesn't matter whether it's Davis Nissan or Chase Nissan, as I remember it's the same employees working there before anyways.

I had no problems with Davis Nissan..but they didn't want to fix my alarm. They said I had to bring it back to the dealer where I bought my car (and I still haven't fixed it). I had my 15k service there, a bunch of other inspections, and warranty work done there and they gave me no problems.

Yeah, Serramonte Nissan is pretty bad...doesn't seem like they want to do warranty work. It took me 6 months to get them to fix the tranny...
