Weird Spot!! Please Help, Queens New York
Weird Spot!! Please Help, Queens New York
Hi,
Sorry, I don't currently have a digital camera, but I will try to describe as detailed as possible...
I just notice today a small mark on one of my doors, I would say about the size of a pinky nail. It's a dull type of spot, very noticeable (at least in my eyes) after getting a nice hand wash this past weekend. The car itself is so shine, except for this one little spot where I have no idea how it got there. To the touch, it is a little rough, and it seems to be on top of the clearcoat, since when I run my fingers from the smooth areas of the door and then over this one spot, the spot seems to be over the paint. I don't think it's bird poop, since I always eye the car so I have no idea what it could be.
The only thing that I have tried is to use a very wet charmin toilet paper over it. I really am scared about these things. On my old car, I had some old bird poop, and after I tried cleaning it I think I rubbed or smeared the paint. I really hope that is not what this is.
Please let me know of any ideas and or products. Or do you think a detailing place will be the way to go? Do you think this would be a big and expensive job? Can you recommend a place in Flushing, New York?
I apologize if you read this more than once - I will repost in several forums.
Thanks so much for your help!!!

If you're worried about it, I can take it out for you for free if you want to travel to jersey. If not, you might want to try and use varying degrees if abrasives. Try meg's dual action cleaner polish, if that doesnt work you may need something stronger. Depending on what the mark is made out of, a clay bar or some tarminator may work also.
I'd try a clay bar first, then you can use a polish/scratch remover like Meguiars #9. May take several applications, but it is good stuff. Always start with the least aggressive product so you don't add scratches. I'd use #9 several times before I went to anything harsher. Finish up with wax for protection.
I wouldn't use toilet paper on my paint. Toilet paper may feel soft to your behind, but it is a paper product. Paper is made from wood. Wood will scratch paint. For those who don't believe me, rub your car with a tree (j/k. Try a paper towel in an inconspicuous area and you'll see a lot of tiny swirls).
Bird poop can be very abrasive, depending on what the bird ate. I never just wipe it off, because it will cause scratches (high fiber diet from eating vegetation). I always either wash the entire car (good excuse to do so), or use liberal amounts of a quick detailer to remove it.
BTW, berry poop (identifiable by the purplish color) is very acidic, and will etch in to your clear coat quick, especially if baked on by the sun. It also contains seeds (so can white poop), so be careful when removing the offending substance so you don't scratch your paint.
