For the inside of the front windshield, I just use a dry cotton towel. If you have tint, use an ammonia free glass cleaner, (I get mine at Costco). For the outside any type of glass cleaner and newspaper is what I use.

What Y2KSESteve said. I also use a horizontal motion on the exterior, and vertical on the interior. This lets me know what side of the glass streaks are on. MF towels are also very effective.

I've seen that stuff around. What does Sprayway smell like anyway?

I use 3M cleaner. One of the best that can be bought. Do not use paper towels or towels. They leave crap all over the place. Detailers use newspaper and streak free glass cleaner such as 3M. No streaks or anything.

It just has a pleasant scent. Nothing like cherry or anything.

Can any of you guys reccomend something to really deep clean the outside of my windshield? It seems like there is a film even right after I wash my car. I think it might be from rain-x but I'm not really sure, all I know is that I get terrible glare when its raining and light hits my windshield.

I got the glare problem too. I'm thinking of just cleaning my windshield very carefully with Dawn to get rid of everything. On another note...

I have lots of little specks and nicks in the windsheild that cause a ton of glare, to the point that I can't see out the windshield. How do I fix this? WOuld claying work? Or is there some sort of Glass "filler" that gets rid of the specks? I don't want to buy a new windshield.....

Make sure any glare isn't from a film of grime on the inside of your window. For really tough dirt or stuff you just can't seem to remove, try a glass polish (not cerium oxide stuff) which will abrade it off... I would really try something strong like lighter fluid first. That will take off even Rain-X. Claying only helps with actual specks of junk stuck to the surface of the windshield, not pitting. If you have tons of pitting everywhere from being sand blasted even a glass polish might not help much, and you best consult a glass shop and ask if it can be professionally polished out or not.

Streaks are common if the glass is hot, so only clean cool glass. Also, paper towels have glue that hold the first few sheets to the roll. This glue can permeate through the roll. Are the paper towels you are using the designer print type? Those have dyes which can cause streaks/haze just like the glue.

ch13f and The Gange:
Do you both use a car wash that contains conditioners, waxes, or "shine enhancers" (a lot of times silicone)? If so, these can leave a film on your glass (they are supposed to do so on paint, glass is no different). Dawn washing your windshield will remove any oily (read as conditioners, waxes, and "shine enhancers") residue.
After cleaning your glass with your selected cleaner, try buffing the dry glass with a dry microfiber or cotton terry towel. This works wonders to remove any remaining residue from cleaners.
Another trick is to use 2 different types of glass cleaners. I don't know of any glass cleaner that can effectively remove ALL types of contaminants effectively. Some will remove contaminant type "A", while another will do contaminant type "B". This was from another site about glass cleaning, and it really works.

Bman is right about glass polish (I use Duragloss "Nu-glass"). He's also right about the pitting. A glass specialty shop can tell you if they can remove the pitting, or if it's time for a new windshield.

I use Stoners Invisible Glass and crumpled newspaper. My windshield is so clear it seems like there's nothing there.

MF towels work really really well for glass...you don't even need one for wet and one for dry.

I use this one too with a cotton terry cloth. Works very well on tint! Bought it at WalMart. No pun intended on the name brand though
