Question regarding tar/asphalt removal...help

I've had my '02 SE since Feb, and have not been too happy with the condition of the underside of the car since I bought it. Turns out my car was previously owned by Enterprise Rental. My issue is this; there is a thick coating of tar/asphalt built up inside and around the inner-fenderwells. Other than sandblasting the ****e out of it (joking), does anyone have some suggestions on removing the extra 100 pounds of build-up from my car? Thanks in advance.

Try to remove your tires and rims and put your ride on some jack stands. Then get some paint THINNER and put some in a spray bottle. Cover the floor real good under where your working. Wet the wheel well down real good and let it soak. Wipe any overspray off the paint as you go. Keep wetting it down with the stuff untill it get soft. Then use lots of rags to clean it off. Spray some more, wipe off. You get the picture. Finish with some spray engine cleaner (watch the overspray)and a high pressure washer. It will be clean as new.

whitedogone,
Thanks for the assistance. Hopefully I'll get the motivation to do this when I get a few extra minutes. Thanks again,
