How Would You Feel About.......

I was wondering how you guys would feel about having videos showing different detailing procedures (e.g. claying, waxing). What do you guys think of the idea?

Bluesbrekr 11-16-2003 09:32 AM

Good idea, Prinz.

I think a visual aid would be helpful to a lot of peeps. Especially with detailing stuff, it's good to actually see it being done, rather than just reading about it.

maximadave 11-16-2003 10:15 AM

Yeah, thats a cool idea:idea:

mrglynis 11-16-2003 07:28 PM

I agree it would be a very nice thing to have. I know the first time i detailed my car i was very nervous. A video guide would have been quite nice.

endus 11-17-2003 09:29 AM

I have been thinking about doing this too. Being able to see how fast people are moving their Porter Cables may have saved me a lot of time learning...experience has taught me to move slooooooooooooooow. A lot of the paint stuff would be easier to elarn if people could see the technique.

endus 11-17-2003 09:30 AM

BTw I ahve a video camera and FW hookup so I can capture video easily. It's kinda chilly but I could give it a shot...I'd rather wait til next sunmmer tho.

pruizgarcia 11-19-2003 05:18 AM

Great idea.

Pedro

Link112 11-19-2003 07:48 AM

I agree this is a great idea and even the what not to do. Always helps to see it.

Sqard 11-19-2003 08:41 AM

I am willing to host videos on my site if you want to tape some.

my99maxisnice 11-21-2003 11:33 PM

I'd personally like to see a video on claying, just to give you an idea. Sounds like a tedious process.

nadir_s 11-22-2003 11:52 AM

cool idea!

Sqard 11-25-2003 08:21 PM

So when do we start filming?

PrinzII 11-26-2003 01:19 PM

Considering that many of us are in winter, we are going to start taping in the spring. Tell you all what, comne to the chat tonight and we will discuss it further.

white95max 11-27-2003 07:05 PM

I like the idea. I am pretty well informed and experienced in detailing but I would still watch all of the videos to see how others do the different procedures.

PrinzII 12-02-2003 07:49 PM

I just saw some links to different videos at www.tacscar.com. If anyone looks at them, let me know.

Bman 12-04-2003 11:01 PM

While I think videos are helpful they, much like writing detailing articles, carry the danger of becoming gospel and you'll have to decide if you want to do some things the "popular" method, or just your own way whatever that may be.

Good topics would include claying, PCing (even though DB's video is pretty good for that already), and quicker clips of things like QDing, CCDing, maybe a quick washing step overview...

I don't know if you remember but theveed did a quickie DIY claying video. Let me know if you want to see it, I think I've got it lying around someplace...

PrinzII 12-06-2003 07:14 AM

Bman, that's a great idea. Let's do it for the time being.

PrinzII 12-26-2003 09:23 AM

Sorry I haven't talked this up too much. I have been thinking about how to do this so that it would be easy for everyone to manage.

I definitely want to do some videos that are Maxima Specific to illustrate the particulars about detailing Maximas in a nutshell.

In addition, I still want to get videos together on the following subjects:

Claying
Washing
Waxing
Swirl Removal
New Car Prep

In short, I want to stay with more general topics. :D

PrinzII 02-06-2004 12:53 PM

I can't wait until spring to start this. :D

Bman 02-10-2004 07:42 PM

Ever made a home movie/documentary before? :D

PrinzII 02-10-2004 08:42 PM

Nope. But I am sure it would be fun.

Videoing or no videoing...I just can't wait til spring so that I can clean my car up so it doesn't look like crap anymore.

N34JZ 02-11-2004 12:43 PM

let me know if I can help, I detail and Ive got a DV cam. :)

superblack98se 02-14-2004 08:39 PM

GO TO WWW.MEGUIARS.COM somewhere on that site they have a bunch of vids dealing with detailing, my bro went there and it was very helpful to him when starting his own detailing business.

PrinzII 02-16-2004 04:21 AM

Superblack: I am trying to plan a tutorials to be used here. Those videos are considered copyrighted material and we would need the permission of Meguiar's in order to use them.

N34JZ 02-16-2004 05:32 AM

those videos arent that great anyway,, they spend most of the time selling their product rather than teaching.

PrinzII 02-19-2004 07:54 PM

Those of us who want to do this, where will we host them?

N34JZ 02-19-2004 08:48 PM

Ammi 02-22-2004 09:05 AM

sounds good. can't wait till spring rolls around

96white 02-22-2004 12:58 PM

Lets do it !

PrinzII 02-22-2004 01:39 PM

Cool. I'll set a time where we all can meet up and hammer out the specifics for this. We'll use the chat room I created for the detailing chat. :D

PrinzII 05-14-2004 09:05 AM

Considering that the weather is breaking, we really need to get this rolling. Who's still interested?

N34JZ 05-20-2004 02:21 PM

Ive got a camera and tons of product let me know what you need

endus 05-20-2004 05:46 PM

I will def do it once my paint is cured...got the Menzerna the other day...Pinnacle is in...ready to go in...how many days to I have left?

WillMax95 05-21-2004 02:26 AM

i like it!!

PrinzII 06-05-2004 09:07 AM

Another thing I just thought of is writing a "Detailing 101" thread to show the processes we use to get the Maxes shiny.

What do you think?

N34JZ 06-05-2004 01:05 PM

sounds good, Im detailing a few cars tommorow, Ill try to get some vids of some easy techniques.

endus 06-15-2004 07:10 AM

Video has been shot and more is on the way. I need to see what I have, do some editing and then I will post. Just hope everyone approves of my technique. :)

PrinzII 06-15-2004 07:27 AM

Cool. If you need space to host, let me know.

Thanks. I have space and bandwidth, just as long as it doesn't get downloaded too insanely much. I'll probably host it myself and if it's too much (or if you just feel like it) you can mirror it somewhere else.

Now I just have to get off my butt and get this stuff edited.
