I have a 91 GXE with some NASSSSSSSTY mats. I would get new ones but like how they're stitched and have the holes for the holder clip, anyone have any suggestions on what to do/what products to use...thanks

 

If they are pretty bad, you will need to do the following:

a) Thoroughly vacuum the mats
b) Treat any spots with a spot remover or go over them with something like Oxiclean to get the difficult stuff out
c) Go over the mats again with a regular carpet shampoo
d) Use a steam extractor to pull up any wet dirt

Another approach is ti use one of the small Bissel Steam cleaners and get the shampoo from www.topoftheline.com. But again, I still would recommend using something like a good spot remover and/or oxiclean to get bad stains out.

 

Are new ones no longer available for 3rd gens?

Personally, I just buy new ones every year. It makes such a big difference to have new ones.

 

I understand that 4th Gen mats will fit our cars.

Otherwise follow what Prinz said and work a steam extractor like that Rug Doctor thing in there somewhere. Just make sure you do not use an extractor with any type of cleaner that foams up a lot.

Also, allowing cleaner to soak and using a scrub brush may help.

After you're done use a product like scotchguard or 303's fabric protectant to help keep them clean.

 

Yes, Nissan dealerships have mats for 3rd gens. About $80 or so.

Try oxiclean before buying new mats. Here's a process that I found effective for my mats:

Make sure your mats are thoroughly vaccumed before doing this.


1. Get a solution of oxiclean and water in a squirt bottle (not spray, squirt).
2. Spray the mats down and soak them completely.
3. Scrub the mats with a coarse brush.
4. Get some more oxiclean powder and spread it around on the wet mat. The more the better.
5. Keep on scrubbin'.
6. Wash with water. Thoroughly.
7. Get a tub (preferably a wash room sink tub, something big enough for the mats to fit in), and fill that tub with water. HOT water. Mix in a ton of oxiclean, and I mean a TON.
8. Put the mats in the tub.
9. Let them sit overnight.
10. Take them out, and rinse them thoroughly. Isn't that water DIRTY?!?!?!?
11. Let them dry, and see how they look!

You might want to do this a few times. I did it to my mats twice, and they are immaculate now. Only the driver mat is still stained, but only from florida mud and dirt. It's permanent. This will do a lot for your mats.

 

I put mine in the washing machine and I was shocked at how good they looked when they came out. Just make sure you put the mats in so that the rubber feet all face outward or they will get wound up in the agitator. So much dirt came out of mine that there was a ring of sand/dirt at the bottom of the washer that didn't even rinse down the drain. I let them air dry.
