damn wipers

last summer i got sick of seeing the chipped paint and glare from the sun hit the wipers (not the blades) so i covered my hood and windshield, sanded them down and repainted (spray paint) They're chipped again but is there a way i can take off the entire piece? and redo them? And is there a better spray paint i should try using?

Most wipers are attached by a small nut, and friction fit to the shaft. Try lifting the cover on the bottom of the wiper. There should be a small nut unerneath. Undo the nut. Then the wiper arms can sometimes be removed by hand by pulling straight up.

Often they are firmly attached to the shaft. I've always needed a small gear puller to pop them off. Pickup a junky one for $5 if you can.

I just painted mine recently.

Easy to get the wipers off. Remove the small cap where the wipers are attached to the car with a flat head screw driver. Take off the nut. Push down on middle of the wiper arm and pull the bottom up from the screw that is attached to the car. Really not as involved as I write it to be.

I hung the wiper arms by small strings while I sprayed them and for drying. Use a few coats of black primer on them(assuming you are painting them black). They look good with just the primer but if you are going for paint..just put a few coats of the dupli color or plasti color enamel on them. They are actually pretty shiny and my give me some glare if it is really sunny. You can clear coat them if you want also but will probably add more glare.

I hope this helps.

Find a flat black or semi-gloss so they're not so shiny.
