Great- now i have a new problem

I brought my car in for servicing at the dealer and I showed them the etched bird stains on my trunk. They did me a favor and took care of them for me by buffing them out. They buffed the entire trunk. Now tonight when my car was under a street light i noticed that the paint now has a holographic effect. (i wasnt able to tell b/c when i picked up my car it was raining. DAMNIT! I have not rezainoed the car yet. What am i gonna have to do to it to get rid of the holographic effect? Could it be that they simply buffed with compound and did not put a polish on? I really hope it's not permanantly damaged

Ouch. Can't believe the dealer offered to mess with that. Sounds like time for some mild polish. Maybe Menzerna FP. Good luck.

Sorry can't post pics, but the dealer took it to a body shop because I was like "WTF!" and they reduced the holograms considerable. Can barely see them now- I put a coat of z2 once i got home. I will cross my fingers on this one. :-(

They used an orbital buffer and burned your paint.

There are two rules when it comes to dealers and paint...

Rule #1: NEVER LET THE DEALER TOUCH YOUR PAINT

Rule #2: NEVER DISOBEY RULE 1

I feel 100% confident in saying that all car dealers are universally **** poor or worse at bodywork. Never ever let them touch your paint under any circumstances.

Every time I bring my car to the dealer now I put "no washing/wiping" in the notes. Last week I was at a dealer getting parts and saw a woman washing a customer car using a scrub brush....A ****ING SCRUB BRUSH!!!!!!

What you need now is polishing. Menzerna FP may do it, or you may need DACP. Do you have a PC? If not, this may be tough. Did you pay them to buff out the etching? If so I would demand a refund and demand that they pay for you to take your car to a real detailer or bodyshop.

No, I didnt pay them. I dont have a PC, I only have a Black and decker handy orbital buffer. I thought that the rotary buffer is the dangerous and the orbital one is the safer one? I actually put a coat of Z5 on and it helped a lot.

Yes, you are right! I'm sure endus just got the two mixed up there....

All too common occurance that dealership detail monkeys don't know how to polish using one of these things and create the "hologram" effect you saw.
