Windshield Wipers

Has anyone else had the paint on their windshield wiper arms chip off? If so what have you used to cover it up. I tried some black touchup paint, but it just peeled off after a rain storm or two..

I repainted my wiper arms with Rust-o-leum exterior flat black spray paint a while ago and they still look great. Just put a bunch of newspaper / masking tape around everything, use some steel wool to rough up the parts you're going to paint (and this will also help peel off any loose paint). Wipe off the dust and spray a couple of coats of rustoleum on and you're good to go.

I think he is talking about doing it without removing the arms...hence the reason that you have to make sure you tape and covering everything well. I have done it before and it turned out fine.

I would like to repaint my wiper arms as well. But I am not so sure about trying to paint while they are on the car. The Hanyes manual tells you to remove the bolt and pull the arms straight off. Well the bolt comes off no problem, but the arm just wants to stay put. Any tips?

Tip: just pull as hard as you can, and pull from the bolt side only. You can also wrap a flathead screwdriver in a rag, stick that in there, and twist. Should come right off.

I just painted my wiper arms (off the car) with Duplicolor Engine Enamel, Semi-Gloss Black. They look FANTASTIC. Three coats, no prep except sponging them with soap and water. I think semi gloss is perfect. I haven't put them on the car yet but I'm sure they'll look good. Might need to paint my cowl cover to match now, it'll probably look super dull. Don't forget to paint the two plastic caps to match.

Thanks VQuick. I'll try it again someday soon. It just seemed to be hard to get enough leverage on those puppies. Did you pull them with your hood down or up. I have a feeling they will look much better with some fresh paint.

To get the flat look, try Rustoleum BBQ paint.

I did it all with the hood up. You have to because you can't reach the bolts with the hood down. You have to do it all from the driver's side also. It's not too hard to reach the center.

Hey V, what's the cowl cover? Is that the long black plastic strip with ridges across the very bottom of the windshield? Excuse my ignorance, but I have never heard that term before, nor any name for that part for that matter lol.
