Question

I was told before that I could wax my car, then polish it. is this wrong?

Normally you would polish and then wax to protect.

A polish or cleaner wax will remove any wax that is already on the car. You "could" polish after you wax, but there would be no wax protection on your car afterward, and the polish probably wouldn't work as effectively as it could without wax on the car.

Repeat after me:

Clean, polish, wax.

Clean, polish, wax.

Cleaning removes contaminants, polishing removes light swirls and oxidation and deepens color/shine, waxing protects and shines.

I just did the car today before reading this post.. I was out there for a while.. I got the car clean, used the cleaner wax, then applied the polish.. It seems to look great and smooth like when the wax is there. From the posts I have just read above I am thinking I have no protection now.. So I dunno.. The car looks like its been waxed!

Your car looks good from the polish. Polishing is the most important step to bring out a car's shine and depth. A polish WILL remove any wax that it is applied over. Put some high quality wax on there now and see how much better it looks.

Cool, way to go...I'm glad you got it worked out.

I heard Tech Wax is good stuff, especially for the price. I think the synthetic waxes are supposed to last longer on dark cars.

Are you happy with the results?
