Help; dirty mess!
Help; dirty mess!
I had to Brake really hard the other day and everything went flying including an open bottle of soda. Everything on my console got wet including my shifting gear and temperature dials. Now it's hard to shift in gear (A/T) with my car and the dial is getting really hard to turn. Should I have the stealership clean it out or can i do it myslef. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Whoof - that sucks, bud. I would DEFAINATLEY DIY. A job like that will probably require that you get into the crack and creaveses, something that is not hard, but time consuming. A detail job can run around $1xx+. I'd suggest posting this in the 'DETAILING' forum, you're more likley to get the response you are looking for there.

does anybody know how i can remove the temperture console so i can get all of that stuff out???
pop is soda in the midwest and canada my G/f is from IL and she fricken yells at me for calling it soda. whipes are good but i would say have it detailed if you can afford it. hell i wish i could. if not pretty much all of the above sugestions are great
Ok. I feel your best bet is to start taking things apart and using lysol to clean everything. IT has alchol in it and cuts through sugar stuff pretty good. This is somethint that would annoy the crap out of me knowing there is gunk in the shifting console and all. ITs not too hard to take it all out.

As far as removing the temp control unit is concerned, you will need to remove your ashtray, followed by the shift console, then the headunit/temp control assembly. From there you will be able to disconnect the tmep control and unscrew the mounts. If you need to go as far as removing the faceplate, simply unlatch the tabs thereby exposing the button & lever assembly.
Good luck, dude...

.... that was a good one. And for the mess, no need to go through all that hassle removing your center console just to clean, just take a thin cloth and a cotton swab, and get each and every little tiny space thats possible.. i've had coke spill on my shifter before, but i pulled over and cleaned it off right away, otherwise the sugar gets everything sticky. But like everyone said, use hot water and keep cleaning it, DEF. time consuming. Goodluck.
Armor all wipes and simple towels/rags with warm water or any other solution won't do the trick in this case. Those solutions are meant more for surface cleaning, not getting into the cracks and crevices of the dash. The best thing to use a foaming cleaner, you could probably get away with a foaming aerosol glass cleaner like Stoner's Invisible glass, but I recommend going to a supermarket or something and getting DOW/Scrubby Bubbles, the foaming cleaner for bathrooms and stuff. Also pick up a soft paint brush about an inch wide. Spray it all over the dash really saturate the cracks by the shifter, and use the brush to get it in the crevices. Use a rag to wipe off.
There will be stuff left in the cracks, so if you have an air compressor it would work wonders to get moisture out of the cracks and from behind the buttons. Blowing vacuums and cans of air will do the trick also. Foaming products are truly the best for getting in hard to reach places.
