Removing scratches

what is the best way to remove scratches from your car? I dont really work in the best area and i have had rocks thrown at my car and i was wondering if there was an easy way to remove some of the scratches with out having to buff them out or pay to have them removed.

Buy a Porter Cable Orbital and then use a paint cleaner/swirl remover (Meguiars sells several that are excellent).

If you have rocks thrown at your car, and it would seem more likely that this would cause paint chips, not scratches. If they're paint chips, no polish will take it out, you'll need touch up paint.

Agreed. My advice was of course just for scratches in general.

If the scratch is deep enough to feel with your fingernail, you probably won't be able to safely remove it (you would take off too much of the clearcoat). If not, then you can use a PC and a polish.

Paint cleaners are not abrasive, and therefore will not remove scratches/swirls. Meg's #9 is a common swirl remover, but it contains fillers, which hide the scratches/swirls. I prefer to use polishes with no fillers because it doesn't seem right to just hide them, and have them come back a couple months later.

I use 3M's Perfect-It III Machine Glaze BTW. You can find it at Carquest, and it works well by hand too if you can't get a PC.
