Is there anything that you can buy off the shelf, that will shine the stuff they put on your tire at the car wash.... the guy there told me it was silocone based, but it was like professinal strength or something

the best stuff i have ever used is mguires(sp?) endurance tire gel. the stuff looked great and lasted for like two weeks, even with heavy rain and washings in between. i am having a hard time finding now... anyone know who carries it? i got it for christmas last year in a car kit package and it is finally gone...

I try not to use anything with silicone on the tires (and interior for that matter). The stuff I like best on my tires is 303 protectant.

IIRC, silicone on the tires can cause them to get that 'brown' look. Also silicone, while making rubber and vinyl look good for the short term, can actually speed up the deterioration of these materials. Many tire and vinyl dressings have removed silicone from their products for this reason.

That crap they use at the car wash is probably the cheapest stuff they can find, and it is probably one of the worst products in terms of deteriorating your tires.
If I read your question right, you want to put something over what they put on to shine the tire more?
If that's the case...
My brother puts cheap dealership tire shine on his tires sometimes. After he puts it on, I have a hard time cleaning the tires, and no other product wants to stick to the tire.

Many cheap tire shines have chemicals that deteriorate the waxes that are in the tire. When those waxes are removed from the sidewall, you're more likely to get fading of the tire, or worse...cracks in the sidewall.
303 is a great product for protecting the tires. It will not remove those critical waxes in the tires.

I know you can get it at Autogeek.net.
I think it can also be bought at some boating and camping stores as well.

I get mine at a local marine supply/boating store. It's popular with boaters because of it's high UV protection.
