paste or liquid wax? what protects better?

im sure this has been discussed a million times, and i dont see it on the first few pages....

what is better and gives more protection, liquid wax or paste wax, and what do you use to apply paste wax, is it basically the same procedure as liquid? i heard paste is a pain to use, is that true?

thanx for the help!

It's really based on personal preference. As long as you apply the wax evenly to cover all parts of the paint, either will do the trick for just as long, assuming they are the same wax (i.e. Meguiar's Gold Class Liquid or Paste Wax). I find that paste wax is harder to take off, and if you are detailing multiple cars per day all week, it can get tiring to wax by hand like that all the time. For that reason, I switched to applying wax with a small random orbital using liquid hi-tech yellow from Meguiar's. As a bonus, it applies more evenly. The Meguiar's website FAQ has some info on this topic as well.

A lot of people on here will also promote sealants, which last longer than wax.

There are others that work well, but this looks good on silver, protects up to 6 months:

A sealant is synthetic, meaning its not made from natural wax like carnauba, for example. Though I've only used one (200MPH), I will try Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection and possibly Klasse Sealant Glaze this spring. Like I said, they do last considerably longer, and you can eventually top with a wax too.

FourStar UPP and Klasse are sold online only afaik, but one decent sealant you can get at an AutoZone, Pep Boys or like store is Meguiar's NXT.

I don't think you can make a blanket statement, it depends entirely on the wax you are talking about.

If I must make a blanket statement though, paste tends to be better. You have to remember the Zymol Carbons of the world though...that stuff lasts like 10 minutes...

I'm not comparing apples to oranges - just apples to apples and oranges to oranges. As I said, Meguiar's Gold Class wax will last just as long in liquid form as it will in paste form, as will Meguiar's Hi-Tech Yellow wax. Now if you're comparing say, a cheap liquid Turtle Wax with a good Meguiar's paste wax, or a beauty wax such as Pinnacle Paste Glaz with a longer lasting liquid wax by someone else, then you'd have a different stance, but again, that's comparing two different products.

In my experience, they last equally as long and articles I've read in magazines and online seem to support this. A lot of people think that paste is better because it goes on thicker. In actuality, you could apply the wax 2 inches thick but only a tiny amount will stay on the car when you wipe down the car.

Paste waxes are a breeze to apply and remove if you use the right ones.

The same procedure is used to apply pastes vs liquids.

Paste waxes have the ability to hold a higher carnauba content than liquid waxes, so they may have a slight advantage over liquids in terms of protection.

I prefer to use paste waxes whenever possible. Some pastes like Pinnacle Paste Glaz just glide on like butter and come off just as easily. It doesn't last all that long though. Since it's so easy to use, I don't mind reapplying it every 3-4 weeks.
