haze on carbon fiber
haze on carbon fiber
Hey guys I did a search and did not find an answer for this one. I have a carbon fiber trunk lid that I wax regularly. The problem is, is that it is leaving a white haze in some spots even when the wax is off (or I cannot get it off anymore). I use McGuiers NXT I put it on by hand and take it off by hand. Does anyone have a recomendation of how to get rid of this haze? Thanks.

what you might be seing is the wax heating up too much and glazing over. This is very common on carbon hoods as the hood recieves so much heat from the engine. Try using a wax remover and starting from scratch on the carbon parts. Should help out a considerable bit.
yes, any reputable company for car care products should carry it. I believe I have Meguiars, although I know Mothers and other companies make it. It will specifically say wax cleaner or remover on the label...and yes Discount Auto will carry it. I think I got mine at the local Wal-Mart.
So does anyone have any ideas on this other than wax cleaner? I now have a 95 maxima with a carbon fiber hood and it is very hazy/dull. I really like the look of exposed carbon fiber (read: non painted) but I am not going to leave it like this if I cannot get it looking any better. I have washed it with dish detergent several times, I have clay bared it, and I have waxed it several times with NXT but it still looks like crap. Does anyone have experience with bringing there carbon fiber back to life? Thanks.

Cardana: At a recent detailing meet, we had a Celica with an oxidized CF hood . What we did was take a polish (Menzerna Power Gloss) to remove the oxidation and then followed it with a less aggressive polish.

-Also can I polish the car right after I wash it? Is that ideal?

Do you have any pics of before and after from using this product? Also do you need some sort of machine to polish the car or can you did it by hand?

Hey cardana,
I don't, but i saw a post in here where someone tried it and raved about the product...guarnteed he'll use it the rest of his life
ummmm...guess what it breaks down to bro -- is the intro kit is 20 bucks whats your hood worth?
for the best results obviously a PC would be good, but if money is the key --- then while your in that store pick up some microfiber application pads and some micro towles,,, you'll be straight....

Thanks for the advice. I found the post you are talking about, and that guy did have really good results. I am still wondering if anyone has used this polish on carbon fiber?

He said he has a CF trunk lid, not a CF hood. I agree with your assessment of it happening with the heat from a hood, however.

As for Menzerna, you can't go wrong. Both the Intensive and Final Polishes will work well on CF hoods/trunks. However, your best results will come if you use a machine (e.g. PC) and the correct pads.

^^is this still the kit that is recomended for this problem? Also what kit is that? Its just going to a main page now. Thanks for any help. I am getting ready to have the car painted and I would like to keep the carbon fiber un painted but if I cannot get rid of this haze I will just have it painted and be done with it. Thanks.
