Bought a Maxima and got rust proofing done
Hey all,
Bought a new Max on Saturday and just had the rust proofing done. How can I tell if it was actually done? My old cars always had a sticky film inside the panels but I checked the Max and there was nothing tacky that I could feel. Are they using something different than the old sticky stuff?

you prolly got ripped to be honest. Usually there is a browning residue left behind for rust proofing. I have an insider who told me not to bother because the manufacturers already do a good job rust proofing the car. It's worth rust proofing the car after 5 or so years when the stuff from the factory starts to wear off.
On another note. The use teflon or cars these days so it's really hard to tell if your car was rust proofed or not. Check to see if you have any holes drilled in the door that were capped off.

Just bought a 2005 SE 3 weeks ago. I did not choose the rust proof upgrade. I figure I will wait a year for that service (did not want to pay any more up front). What do think about the 18" tires? How do you think feel they will handle in winter? I think a may need snow tires.
Well I got the rust proffing and Paint shield for free, part of the deal... and there is some brown residue but it's not tacky like my old cars so I was wondering if that was it. My old 98 Max had RSA and they were good for snow, THAT WAS IT! Rain or a little wet ground and they slipped. Ended up get summer tires BF's KDW. Love those in summer can't use them in winter.

I think anyone who lives in Chicago or Canada should have good rust proof protection from the winter salt they put down on the roads, I however would have insisted they included it in the auto purchase deal at no cost.
Yup that's how I got it free... But after reading some of the issues people are having I am kinda scared too! I have yet to go over 60MPH due to only having 100 miles on the car. I am hoping that I don't have the dreaded shimmy. I'll take it for a drive tomorrow and see what happens. Everyone pray for me...

I may be completely ignorant in this statement but I thought the new max's come with anti-corrossion protection when you buy then new. I have a five year unlimited mileage warranty against rust. I may be wrong on that so don't throw me under the bus on this one. If this is not it then how much does it cost to have this done on a car? I would wait a few years on it as I am down in dc so and we don't get as much snow in this area as a lot of others.
I am not sure if they do or don't but with the winters in chicago and all the salt, I wanted to be safe than sorry. But you may be right on that one, just not sure. Either way with the rust proffing and paint shield, which was free, I now have a ten year warrenty on rust through and 5 years on surface rust. I did the same to my other Max of 7 years and it has no rust and the paint, when washed, looks new. Plus I got lazy with my old one and only washed that twice a year but when it was wash it looked hot with a great mirror finish.
