When wiping off wax/polish, I get swirls.

I always hate to wash, wax, or polish my car because it is dark green and I can see every minor inperfection it has. Whenever I go to polish or wax my car, when I remove the wax i sometimes get minor swirl marks; you can't see them unless you look close, but it pisses me off so much. I believe the reason is that when the wax dries and I take it of it's drie and comes off in many little particles. I don't know how to stop this though. Does anyone else have a problem with this? I use a microfibre cloth to take it off, and use a PC to put it on; Wax I do by hand and I use circular motions to take everything off.

Is your microfiber a 70/30 blend and 220,000 thread count? if not get yourself some good microfiber polishing cloths and that should help. Also dont use circular motions, try and use back and forth.

Use straight motions that go with the flow of the wind. Some swirling is inevitable.

I know how to remove swirls. The problem is when I remove the polish I get a few places of swirl marks. I use a microfibre cloth that I got from walmart in the detailing section. I also use straight motions.

Go to Autopia-carcare.com, and get some good quality buffing MF towels. This should help. I know all about the Wal-Mart special: after spending close to $250 on a PC/pads/polishes/sealants/etc for my ultimate detail, I used a Wal-Mart towel to remove. Needless to say, the finish is not as great as I thought it first was, and I cannot wait to detail with these new towels I got.
edit: I bought the Meg's Microfiber "ultra plush" buffing towels (3 towels for like 9 bucks and change) and should be coming in this coming week.

its not ur cloths or anything....i do detailing for bmw...first off is it a cheap wax? if not, try getting your car buffed. they use rubbing compound to get all oxidation and dirt off, than they use swirl mark remover to take out the swirls. if anything get 3M Perfect It swirl mark remover from an auto parts store (its hard to find) that will help. but buffing will definitly help.

Are you doing this outside when the car is hot? That will cause swirls when you try to buff out the wax. Always wax a car when the paint is nice and cool, away from the sun. And dont do circular motions like others said.

what your doing is taking the cloth and wiping the dry wax off and because its not just falling off the car (like it should be) your taking those fine wax particles and rubbing it back into the paint...instead

1. use a better wax that melts off nice and smooth

but most importantly

2. Spray detail spray over each section you remove. This will loosen the wax and help it come off fully rather than flaky....

Thanks for the replys. I waxed the hood and trunk today, will see how it turns out tomorrow in the sun. I will buy the MF towels from autopia and use Meguires quick detail. The wax I use is Meguires NTX, I need somethin like Zaino for the finish I want though.

He's inexperienced with this type of stuff. He's saying that 3M Swirl mark remover is hard to find, when I've found it in EVERY automotive store in my area. Not to mention, the 3M SMR isnt the best stuff to use. I honestly would advise everyone not to take his information seriously, most of the things he has posted has been proven false.

If you want a glossy/durable wax, i'd reccomend Collinite 845. Its actually more of a sealant since it lasts anywheres from 3-6 months depending on the climate.

I think it runs $15-20 bottle, and you can find it in most automotive parts stores. Lasts a long time.

I took this from Autopia:

Apply your wax in a back-and-forth motion, not in circles. If you are creating swirls, you need to replace your applicator or towels.

I feel bad for the bimmers....
At least I wasn't the only one in this forum not to say something - I was starting to worry about the finish of every maxima here...haha.
