removing pin stripe

I m sick of my factory pin stripe , but seem to be paint on the car. I was wondering if it can be removed without damaging the cars paint job.

someone posted a way how to remove painted pinstripes in one of my old threads:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=424777

its in post 25 i think.

i tried getting rid of part of the pinstriping, but it wasnt coming off as easily as i would of liked. It may have been the way i was spraying it on, maybe not leaving it on long enough, but it works.

Note: when I tried it the spot i tested looked a LITTLE lighter than the rest, but after a wash and a wax it looked good as new.

I don't know about painted on pinstripes. But the for the tape, all I did was use a hair dryer and or heat gun, warm up the area, scrape it off, uses some go-gone (something like that) wipe of excess glue. Your going to have to wax, or even polish the area after.

Cool thanks for the link maximus I can't belive how simple it is.

But did you end up removing your pinstripe or just part of it because it sound like you didn't remove whole thing.

I had some accent marks on my trunk that i removed successfully...but it took a few applications of the oven cleaner to get it to come off, and i had to use my nail to scratch some off some of the remnants. i think if i had left it on there for a good 5-10 minutes on a real hot day it would of been easier

how many miles does your car have? is it kept in the garage? I want to remove my pinstripe and possibly the emblems but I dont want the area around it to look lighter...so after the wash did it look unnoticeable...

currently i'm at 67,xxx miles. 80% of the time it is parked on the street. i applied the oven cleaner, waited about 5 minutes then cleaned it off. I had to use my fingernail to get rid of what was left. i think the area was a little lighter because it might have been saturated from the cleaner. when i look at it now the paint is uniform in the area. i'll try to take some pics if i can...for reference to what area i'm talking about of the car - look at my sig, top right of the trunk...

hmmm I see that your talking about on the trunk, would be great to see pictures. I want to remove the pinstriping but I just dont want the outline there, it has been 115000 miles and 8 years so I may think about it. Thanks though!

Some of the thicker spots were fairly stubborn when I did mine too. I re-applied a few times and let the cleaner stand a little longer than the recommended 5 minutes the dude on the Lexus link suggested. (10-12 minutes instead 5)

Oh, and Nissan6, no worries on the outline, it won't be there after you wash and wax it.

I heated my burger up with a hair dryer and then shaved it off with some tooth floss. (Fishing line works great too, even better cause it won't break, but I didn't feel like buying any so...).

For the gunk, I put the hair dryer to it again, softened it up, then scraped it off with a credit card and finished it off with some Goo Gone. After doing so, you'll notice a faint outline from the removed emblems, but it fades away after time so no worries.
