Removing Mildew smell from a non-leather interior

I got a 98 and for some reason, lately it really started smelling like mildew...it was raining a while back here in NYC for over a week, so i guess the carpet got a bit wet, but its dry by now...I tried applying that Arm & Hammer powder to the carpet and seats, waiting a little then vacuumed...the smell went away for a day or two and then came back...

i was thinking of swapping the carpet from stockcarpets.com since its only $100, but does anyone know of anything else that could be done?

(i did look around, and couldn't find anything related)

Thanks!!

it rained one night and of course, i left the windows down and it smelled a bit musty the next day. i just rolled the windows down, let it sit in the sun, took the rear seats out and floor mats and just let it dry out. they i drove around as much as i could with the windows down to air it out. smells just fine now!

Take a carpet cleaner (portable kind) and clean all the seats and carpet. Leave the windows open overnight and possibly for atleast 24 hrs. That should get rid of the smell.

If you know someone with a Bissel Little Green, you could borrow that to clean the carpet and seats.

You can try renting one at your local grocery store. (I rent em at Publix or Kroger here in Atlanta.) Just go to the service desk and ask if they carry them. I've rented them at Lowe's & Home Depot too.
