Congrats. A PC is the single best detailing investment you can make IMO.

It's pretty foolproof, you won't need to 'practice' much, if at all.

Have you gotten any pads?

I bought it from the autopia store...with the sonus DAS kit, and an SFX yellow spot pad; all counterweights included

I have a 7336 and have the Sonus DAS pads as well as the SFX PC pads and spot pads. I also bought a leather brush and plan to get a carpet brush from www.topoftheline.com.

I went to Lowes the other day to pick one up and all they had was the 7336. I know the counterweight is the difference between the 7424 but is there really that much difference in a counterweight? Or is it basically the same thing?

It's the same unit, with minor variations, so you are ok to get the 7336 and some pads, see link

I've used one for the past several years,...it's a quality tool and it produces outstanding results. With 3 cars to maintain, waxing/polishing the old-fashioned way was too much. Found my PC new on e-bay from a store that sold sanders and got a good deal on it. I believe mine is the 7336...it's configured with the velcro backing plate and came with an ABS molded case, dust hood and vacuum hose (for sander use). While the factory backing plate works great I recently bought the flexible backing plate and sonus sfx pads from autopia...those folks (autopia) offer competitive pricing, quality products and great service. I would highly recommend them.

most if not all cheaper buffers i know of don't have a variable speed setting or the ability to change pads. I'm referring to those orbital buffers like Ryobi FYI.
