All,

I have a black on black 97 SE. But as we all know, the wiper blade housing is starting to dull out and turn grey/white. I want to get them black again. What do you guys think would be the best way of doing that? Should I paint them? If so, can you guys suggest some steps to take? Or would it be cheaper/less time consuming to just order the parts? Thanks for you help.

 

Heres what I did
Remove old paint with steel wool
Tape down newspaper on hood/fender/windshield
Paint wiper arms with Rustoleum BBQ paint

Very easy

 

Try some Mother's Back to Black. It's a temporary solution, but it did the trick on my wiper arms. I usually reapply it every few months or so if it fades to my unliking. If that doesn't satisfy you, then paint them.

 

I'd still be nervous of overspray! especially on my car

 

Woah, c'mon, theres only a single 14mm nut holding the wiper blade down. Takes only 10 seconds to remove them from the car.

 

Ive done it on my truck, car and work truck. Takes 2 minutes to remove and you can paint it on a bench

So brushing it on is better than spraying?

 

Won't have overspray, but might have brush marks. If you take them off the car then spray, if you leave them on then brush IMO.

I haven't done either though.

Ok, so if I spray, what's the best spray to get? Everytime I try to spray anything it ends up with those little bubbles and such. What's something that will last a long time and still look good?

 

You sir are not reading the can correctly. Your spraying too close or too much at one time. Just do one straight line across the wiper, taking like 2 seconds over all. And wait like 5 mins to do the next spray.

The only times i get bubbles is when i apply a clear coat on. And thats because the layer rof paint and the clear spray sometimes don't mate all to well.

 

just take em off n paint em...i did it without a problem

 

If they are really stuck on you may need a cheap gear puller to put enough force on them to pop them off. I got one for like $5 at a flea market.

Same advice as everyone else...sand...spray with fine layers..build up one or two coats and it'll be fine. Go with a glossy rustoleum paint. Make sure they are nice and dry before you put them back on.
