Best way to remove scratches?

I have a smoke '05 Maxima SE. Yesterday, while cleaning my car I noticed that my driver side door, rear driver side passenger door and further back all have tons and tons of scratches on them.

The scratches are very shallow and white in colour. The car doesn't look like it has been keyed but I am wondering if some animal has been scaling the side of my car and climbing all over it, thus the scratches. I suspect chipmunks since I killed a bunch in my garage over the past winter (well, they killed themselves by getting into some poison that was still in the original packaging I had on a shelf.....it was more of a suicide I guess).

Anyway, can anybody recommend a proven solution to remove these scratches? Will standard polish take them out or am I out of luck? I am probably going to take it to a local body shop that I trust to get their opinion but I was curious if anybody else had any thoughts.

Thanks!

Try the detailing section. You'll get more of a response. The stickys in there cover your questions.

Oops. Sorry about that. I didn't see that Detailing section when I was browsing.

I'll go over there now and start searching.

My coworker drew a smiley face on my hood today in the pollen (the pollen has been REALLY bad here the last few days)... I hope he didn't scratch it much.

No worries. I spoke to a local body shop and they think that they can polish it out. Luckily none of the paint was cracked.

You should be able to buff it out by hand using a product like Meguiers #8a swirl remover. It'll take a while by hand, but unless you are familiar with a rotary wheel, i wouldn't use one as you could burn the paint.

I just bought an '02 6-Speed that has a few scratches on the door. They look like shopping cart scratches or something. Nothing major, but it's a black car so it's visible when you get up close. There are a couple very mild door dings on the passenger side I was going to have a body shop look at and get their opinion on what to do about the scratches.

I was thinking about trying the Zaino Z-PC on the scratches and another buddy suggested the Mequiars...decisions, decisions.
