Polishing Valve Cover

Hey guys was looking around but couldn't find any write ups on how to polish the valve covers. Was wondering if any one has done it themselves? What did you use? Did you take off the vavle covers or did you do it in the engine bay? Im thinking about useing some of those buffing pads for the dremmel tools. What do you guys think?
.
Also what about sand paper? Lets say start with a 400 grit, then 600, then 1000, and then buffing compound like meguiars or any other compounds that work better. Let me know what you guys think thanks.

I was thinking about doing that to the intake and such on my VG, and was looking into the Mother's Powerball to do so. From what I hear, it has amazing results on metal surfaces.

The powerball by itself? or with some kind of compound?

I did it with the valve cover on the car using 3 different grits of sandpaper (by hand...250, 500, and 1000 I think?) and then once it was all smooth you just use some aluminum polish (i.e. mother's). Mine turned out ok I guess, definitely looks better than it did. It's very smooth and I get compliments on it all the time. It would be a million times easier to do it off the car though, especially since you really can't get all of it with the cover on.
