Removing Rear Window tint
Ok My car was attack my some one in January with a Pellet gun. I got 2 new windows and a windshield becuase of it.
Now before I had 35% tint on the side and 20 on the rear and I want 20 all around now. I stripped the tint on the drivers side. But I didn't touch the rear window because of the defroster.
I called up the local tint show that I had my tint done last time at, they told me it would run about 85 bucks and then 120 to get the car re-tinted. I was going to do it. I just had one question
Is there an easy way of removing the tint off the rear windshield. Or should I just let the shop do it? And save me the headache.
One more thing. I got my tint last year in March, from the looks of it the rear windshield does look somewhat faded. But I am not sure, since I have a tan interior if thats what is making it look like this. I also have a white car.

Don't use steel wool on the defroster lines...they are easy to mess up.
I bought my car in another state and the tint was too dark for NC so I had to remove it because it wouldn't pass inspection. I used a wallpaper steamer like this on my tint to remove it: http://www.amazon.com/Wagner-Power-P.../dp/B0009XEL4O
Depending on how old the tint is and the condition it is in, you may or may not need the steamer. It ended up that mine was only a few years old and each window came off in one giant piece. You can try and start peeling the tint off from near the edge of the window. If it comes clean off (ie. you have clear glass), then keep peeling slowly and try to keep the tint in one big piece. If it doesn't come off clean, the adhesive is still on the glass and you will need to use the steamer...it will loosen the adhesive so that you can rub/scrape it off fairly easily. Window tint places use a hairdryer as well for the same purpose but that would only be good for small areas.
Good luck!

the tint shouldnt fade. Bad quality tint fades in like 6-7 years but otherwise if it fades go back to the shop that did it and make them re-do it. I payed $100 to take off tint from 5 windows and another $170 to apply 15% tint all around. I dont suggest you ****in with the back window. Its too much hastle and you have a large chance of ****in it up.
ok well I AM a pro. I do it for a living... If you get really fine grade steel wool it WON'T mess up the defrost. That steamer is what I like to use. Just keep it nice and hot around the area you are pulling. If you pull tint too fast while still dry at normal temp that may mess up defrost... Most of the time after using steamer there is still a little glue around the defrost... FINE grade steel wool will take care of it, just spray the window with water and baby shampoo mixed and scrub away. The reason the defrost got messed up pulling stickers off was because you probably pulled fast and it wasn't warmed up. Hope this helps...
P.S. Make sure you get ALL the glue off because it will show up clear as day with new tint over it.
