Tried to use Compound to remove scratch...HELP!!!

I found a scratch on my Black Max today so I tried to buff it out with some compound and not only did I not fix it, but now I have swirl marks on the spot where the scratch is now.

How can I fix this now? It's killing me

Has anyone ever heard of of ScratchX or used it???
http://www.meguiars.com/?auto-paint-cleaners/ScratchX

Does it really work??? Sounds like it's pretty good.

I don't want to get that spot re-painted, but if I have too I will. Who can help me and can suggest something to help me fix this problem.

Thanks

Any pics? You probably used a pretty aggressive compound. You can try the ScratchX, it's not that aggressive. What it needs is polishing with less aggressive products to remove the swirls caused by the compound.

Other choices would be Poorboys 2.5, Optimum Polish or Menzerna.

in my experience, scratch-x doesn't really work all that well. It will remove light scratches, but usually when you buy it, it is to try and fix a scratch that is too deep for the scratch x to treat.

scratch-x just fixes any hairline scratches, if it anything more serious then get some rubbing compound.

That's quite a jump in agressiveness. I'd opt for a few products that are somewhere in between first, like the ones I mentioned in my previous post.

I've worked on a lot of cars and only once had to use rubbing compound. For me it's the very last resort.

When I tried to use compound it left the spot where the scratch was dull. I ordered ScratchX. Don't think I'm going to use it now. My car is black and if I make it any worse it's going to be an eye sore. I have a friend that owns a detailing shop right down the street from my house. I took the car so he can look at it and he told me that he can fix the damage on the clear coat. I have to drop my Max off this Sat. morning and he will take care of it.

When you run your finger on the scratch you can't feel it so it's not in the paint at all. Thank god!!!

Some moron must of leaned on my car and left that scratch on the clear coat. Man let me just tell you something IF I ever catch someone leaning on my car you will all probably see me on the news for beating the **** out of them.

Headline

"Man arrested for the severe beating he gave other guy for leaning on his black Maxima"

People have no consideration for other people's private property ie. "Cars". Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

That 'dull' spot ought to be brought back by using a finer polish. You could try the ScratchX on it. Because it is much less aggressive than the compound it won't make it worse. In fact it would most likely improve it (make it more glossy)

You can try the finer Polishing Compound found at any parts store. Then move to a simple Turtle Wax to bring back the shine. The Rubbing Compound and Polishing Compound should always be used with a little water. Your paint is not ruined, it just needs a little more attention.
