cleaning tip

wow I just heard of using WD40 for cleaning things and for the few that dont know already it works really well at cleaning that sticky greasy gunk off yer car. I know this isn't just 6th gen info but this is the only spot I troll and love this place so much I wanted to share.

Isn't it a bit too harsh for the wax and paint on the body of the car?

I got the tip actually right out of my kawasaki owners manual as what they recommend instead of waxing on the painted plastics so I cant imagine it's too harsh on paint. I've really gone to town with it on the bike and it's amazing

I read somewhere that WD40 is actually made out of fish oil, the smell comes from a fragrance they add to kill the fishy smell.

yea a common misconception is that WD40 is a lubricant. it was designed to be a cleaner and should be used as such.

like qtips were NOT designed for use in your ears.

i dunno. stuff.

look at the back of the package. it shows some lady doing makeup. and then someone cleaning tiles or something. they never show or talk about an ear.

That's because they can get into legal trouble when people jam them into their ear canal and bust their eardrum. In my opinion they are still primarily for your ears, but "technically" and legally they are not.

Unfortunately I don't have anything to contribute to the WD40 conversation, other than it is great stuff.

yea i actually have an ear problem because of using qtips 4 times a day for over 10 years.
ive pushed so much wax back into my ear canal that my hearing is now impaired. im going to have to go to an ear/nose/throat doctor and have him professionally clean it for 180 dollars.

my friend had it done and said he couldnt believe the amount of **** that can out of his ears. like a ziploc full of dark brown wax. he compared his hearing afterward to that of a bat hunting a mosquito.

I have actually used WD40 on my hands to help remove roof tar/oil/grease. I have also used it on my garage floor to remove oil stains. It will remove most of the loose oil as long as it is fresh and if it has been there a while it will still leave a slight stain where the oil was.

I can second this. I had one ear clogged up over time and I didnt notice until it got cleaned out with that hot-water syringe blast into the ear.... man I could hear the heart-beat of the doc next to me all of a sudden! LMAO, it was crazy how much better I could hear, haha.

But anyways, I use WD 40 to shine up my engine bay. I clean it out with degreaser and mist of water, let it steam clean itself for a few minutes, then I just spray WD40 everywhere, looks like a brand new engine.

IDK about using it on the exterior, lol. Plastic I dont see why not but the metal surfaces get pretty freakin hot. Im not sure how WD40 will react to basically sit on a hot-plate a few hrs, and thus what its effects will be on a car's finish.
