Try these guys ---> www.leatherique.com
I don't have personal experience with them, but have heard good stuff.
I will be using them in the summer when the weather warms up.

However, it is only effective on real leather which the material in the 4th gens is not.

Anyway, good luck restoring that 4th gen.

my uncle actually had this gel a while back for his volvo. it was clear but cloudy. he applied it on in a thick layer and let it sit for a couple of hours. the seats totally ingested it.
anyone have an idea what this stuff is called?
ive been looking for it, but dont see it at any auto shop
its a thick gel, not a liquid

check out autopia.com they will be able to steer you in the right direction. its a detailing forum--ive seen some very amazing things posted there. there are products available that are in a completely different class than lexol---most of these are available to purchase online.

I think the problem with our Maximas and most Nissan products is our leather is coated (its only real leather on the surfaces your skin touches not the side panels or seat backs...) its not done this way just cuz Nissan is cheap, but vinyl doesnt shrink as much as leather with age, so this is done to prevent splitting in the seats if the leather shirnks with age and sun.
from what I hear leatherique removes the coating from the leather blah blah blah not so good causes future damage etc etc. but from most accounts it really seems to do the job... I just dont know how it des long term.
if it was a creamier substance it might be from leather master which is a highly concentrated conditioner that is safe on coated leather from what I hear, but doesnt seem to have as much rave review as leatherique
I've been personally happy with Lexol to maintain my interior but I have yet to discover a product that really makes a HUGE difference from the hard leather that I have in my Q45 on the rear headrests... on new leather or wel maintained leather Lexol has been great to me.
I'm actually looking for a solution to this too

Tried macguiart cleaner&conditionner. It sucked. It made the leather all oily, slippery, noisy, and disgusting, plus it wasnt softer at all.
Got pissed, found some lexol tonight, tried it.
First, the cleaner, makes the leather all clean, matte, and removed all that macguiart crap.
Then, the conditionner REALLY made the leather soft and soooo nice to the touch. Not slippery, not oily, not that "waxed" feeling.
I'll always use lexol.
I just did my couch and wallet, and I'll try my shoes on sunday.
