wet-sand...600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1500...IMO
Then buff with compound followed by polish.
They have kits at Wal-Mart...forgot what they're called, but quite a few have tried them and were satisfied with the results.

I honestly don't know where you can buy wet-sand paper, but I'd try your local hardware store? I'd also recommend a buffer...but if you don't have any experience with one, then I wouldn't bother considering they are too cheap and they wouldn't make this too cost effective.

lol

If your lights aren't that bad (which they don't look hazed and discolored) I would NOT start at a 600 grit. I would probably start at 1000 and work my way up to 2000 wet sanding with warm water and a little dish soap, make sure to keep the lights really wet the whole time. Get a very high gloss polish like Zaino or something. Power buffers will give you a much better result, but if you decide to do it by hand, be prepared to buff A LOT.

can you guys helped me out here
Yeah, we have it at our work, but the detailers don't use it much.
Good call on going with a "higher grade" for lighter damage. I knew that, but didn't think of it.
Pretty much like 94maxshima stated.

Also, jimmypronet, do you have any higher resolution pics of your headlights? It looks like you may just be able to use Scratch-X, a high grade polish, then some wax on them if you're just looking for the nice "clear and glossy" finish...
A lot of people sand thinking that it will return their headlights to new and actually come up with something worse than what they started with, for that new of a car, I'd start trying simpler stuff before I went and did something I may end up having to replace my headlights for.
Good luck...

Aircraft Canopy Polish
There is a product for polishing the scratches out of aircraft canopies. Tey are just plastic too. Sorry I don't know where to fid it but a search should turn up something.
