What to use to clean leather?

i'm trying to find the best situation to clean leather, i've used the conventional 'leather cleaner' to soapy water mixed w/ purple power, then spraying cleaner and conditioner on after it had time to dry.

so what should i use, and what procedure?

LEXOL WORKS REAL WELL HUH, EVEN ON DEEP ENGRAINED DIRT? I'VE USED MEGUAIRS MAINLY FOR CONDITIONING, BECAUSE THATS THE FIRST CLEANER/CONDITIONER I'VE EVER BEEN ABLE TO TELL A DIFFERENCE IN TEH FEEL OF THE LEATHER.

DO THE PARTS STORES CARRY THAT BRAND? OR SHOULD I SEARCH ONLINE?

I use Lexol too and it works well. Autozone carries it.

10 parts water to 1 part Woolite (yes the laundry soap for sweaters). Mix in a spray bottle, spray on the leather, scrub with a nylon bristle brush as needed, wipe dry. Any quality leather conditioner works fine.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is abrasive. Use it too often and you will start to remove the coating on the leather. Does the same to vinyl.

This is the method I would use for sure, especially if this is the first real good cleaning your doing to the leather. Afterwards once the seats have been deeply cleaned, cleanings should be much easier and you could just use the zymol or Lexol cleaners and conditioners.

Why spend the money on Lexol/zymol cleaners when Woolite/water is already an excellent cleaner? Ottawa Leather, the major OEM leather supplier recommends using a mild soap and water to clean their leather. Doesn't get much milder than Woolite. Lexus owner's manuals recommend using a 5% wool safe detergent solution (that would be a 20:1 dillution) but don't specifically name Woolite.

You want a really good conditioner? Leather Master's Leather Vital is it. Not cheap though.

You'd think so but it won't. Just make sure it doesn't have super stiff bristles and you will be fine.

Meguairs Conditioner- I will never spend my money on again. I conditioned both my 5th and 6th gens 2 weeks after using started cracking at the pressure points and yes both cars.

btw to scottswax - I havent' used the 10:1 with woolite but I will next time I need a good cleanin since it sounds like one of those good ol' tricks handed down.

any idea how to get rid of ink stains? looks like a pin scraped my tan leather somehow and i can't find anything to get it out....I cleaned and conditioned with the lexol products.....i could tell the difference, they did look/feel better...it even took blue jean dye out of one of my seats

but no luck removing the ink lines....i used a mr clean magic eraser too....but it crumbled into pieces..maybe it was old??? i've had it like a year and a half and just now opened it

Call me crazy but I have done this. Use 10:1 ratio with (10cups) water and (1cup) bleach. It will not harm your seats or discolor them. You can use a cloth of your choice to rub with but if it doesn't come up then try a medium-Soft bristled brush. I wouldn't go any stronger than 4:1 ratio to remove the stain.

I used this method on My watercrafts when I got them out last year and the seats were covered in mildew. one wipe with that method and it all came right off. Seats never discolored or cracked.

However I failed to mention, I would follow up with rinseing it off by using a different cloth with just water and wiping over it until I felt all of the mixture was off.

BTW: bleach is a great cleaner for most of anything (including your car) when diluted with water. Diluting is the key factor!!!

I used some leather cleaner from Ardex a commercial well known company around where I live. Did a decent job. But gonna try the woolite. Since I just got my leather seats and they need a good cleaning

The Woolite mixtures sounds like great advice.
I have used Lexol and it works fairly well. I did not like the feel of the leather after conditioning with Lexol though.
I just got an order of Adams Polish (http://www.adamspolishes.com/) in last night. Bought their leather cleaner to see how it does. I have used a few other Adams products and they make some great stuff.

Im gonna bump this up. Ill definitely be giving the diluted woolite method a go and see how it turns out. But, also, is there a way to remove a small spray paint spot off of leather? Been there for years.

I have always used saddle soap and have always had good luck with it for cleaning. Then use your choice of conditioner.

Woolite with a soft bristle brush (for shoes) works wonders. I rinse/wipe the leather with a microfiber towel and warm water just to make sure there's no residue.

Magic eraser works great, but you have to be gentle with it. I only use it whenever I'm cleaning really nasty leather.

Saddle soap works really well, I do not like any of the car leather cleaners because they tend to make the leather feel like plastic.

Ok Ill look into it. Maybe small doses of saddle soap and paired with a good conditioner would remedy that "plastic-ky" feeling?

Is this OEM leather or something different?

My Infiniti's seats are coated leather. The coating helps the seats last much longer. Though I learned expense leather treatments designed for uncoated leather do nothing for the Q45's coated seats.

Ultraviolet and heat is the enemy. I found a product sold at boat accessory shops named 303 Protectant does a nice job of protecting from ultraviolet rays.

I use saddle soap, followed by the "King Ranch" conditioner from when I had my King Ranch F150. Kind of expensive for what it is, but I've tried most stuff out there and it leaves a semi-gloss shine to it but definitely not greasy feeling at all. Once a month is more than enough to keep it looking really good.

to anyone else reading this, for a 2nd opinion on using mr clean magic eraser, the thing is great in most situations BUT if you plan to use it repeatedly don't use it on leather or any material/surface that isn't hard >.>
